I have two contractor vendors that I pay through the year and need to file 1099-NEC. One of them pops up but the other I can not get to get a 1099

I know the possible reason why the other contractor isn't showing in the Prepare 1099 window, backroadshomeand. Let me share some information regarding this one.

The possible reason why your contractor isn't showing up as you prepare your 1099 is that the amount they have doesn't meet the $600 threshold. Thus, ensure that the amount is $600 and up for you to see them in the Prepare 1099 windows.

As you map your account, ensure to choose the right expense account. I also recommend contacting your tax accountant to ensure that you file your 1099 correctly.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Expenses menu located at the left navigation panel and click Contractors
  2. Press the Prepare 1099s option.
  3. Hit the Confirm info and start filing
  4. Select the accounts that you want to include in your 1099. You can also click the Select Account option to search for other accounts and then click Next once done.
  5. Under the Tracked for 1099 tab, you'll be able to see certain entries such as the created check transaction. You won't be able to see the Expense or Bill transaction since this is not included in your 1099 filings.
  6. You can click Preview. Once done, click Next
  7. Click Continue to e-file or No, I'll print and mail.

When I go to expenses & select contractors, they are both there.

I click Prepare 1099

I click confirm info and start filing

on the page, select accounts used to pay contractors & vendors, I hit next

page, tracked and not tracked 1099 only shows my other vendor, not the one missing, who was paid $20.000, so that's not the issue. She is not listed under tracked where the other one is, or under not tracked

In her file, it is clicked to track for 1099 with her SSN.

What am I missing?????

I have two contractor vendors that I pay through the year and need to file 1099-NEC. One of them pops up but the other I can not get to get a 1099

Let's sort out this missing contractor, backroadshome.

Since you already mentioned that you ticked the box "track payments for 1099", we can proceed with ensuring the expense amounting to $20,000 was a check dated last year. Then, make sure you're paying contractors from the corrrect expense account. Here's how to review them:

  1. Go to Reports and enter Transaction List in the search bar.
  2. Select Transaction List by Vendor and click Customize.
  3. Set the Report period to Last Year (or Last Calendar Year).
  4. Go to the Rows/Column section. Click the Change columns link then tick the Split box.
  5. Go to the Filter section and check the Vendor box. Then, locate the 1099 vendor.
  6. Hit Run report.

Moreover, I'll add this article to help you run reports to know which contractors need 1099s and payment totals: Create 1099 reports in QuickBooks.

Comment below if you have questions about managing your contractors. I'll be around.
