I also get this error. I have spent several hours attempting to find the cause including running the data rebuild. I've tested other forms, tried different printers. This error appears only when printing checks from Quickbooks. It has been an issue for me since Quickbooks 2016.
Steps to reproduce:
A new alert window opens with the message, "Printing checks is not allowed with two-sided duplex printing turned on. To print checks, turn off Two-Sided printing in the layout panel of the Print window."
Also, the content of the check in the preview window goes blank.
The printers I'm using do not have duplex capability, and duplex is not even an option in the Layout section of the print window. There is nothing to turn off, and there is no way to get past this error. If you dismiss the alert window by clicking OK, and hit the Print button, the alert window reappears. If you dismiss it again, another alert window is behind it and says, "Print - No pages from the document were selected to be printed."

OMG that actually worked. I had monkeyed with the presets within the check printing window before to no avail. But changing it in a report, saving it, and then changing the preset in the check printing window eliminated this error. I used the 'Default settings' preset.
Thanks for the helpful answer!
