MY 1099'S FROM SEVERAL DAYS AGO WERE REJECTED BY THE IRS TODAY FOR INCORRECT FORMATTING... it appears the software is formatting SSN's on 1099's as EIN's this year, in the PAYERS TIN box. The RECIPIENT TIN box is working fine. It's correct in my profile and I don't see a way to change the format on the resulting 1099 when I'm trying to resubmit? Unless there's been a change that we're required to use EIN's, this is glitch. It has worked just fine in past years.

there is no error message. Under company info it is formatted correctly. But on 1099 it switches to EIN format

You are not understanding. The SSN for my business is correctly-entered and always has been. I have made no changes to it for 2023 filings. The 1099-MISC's I created and submitted via QuickBooks a few days ago are glitching. I didn't notice it, and the IRS rejected it. My correctly-entered SSN (XXX-XX-XXXX) is being formatted on those as an EIN (XX-XXXXXXX). There is no where for me to change or force correct formatting on the 1099-MISC forms. It is automatically populated there from my account information, and is being automatically incorrectly formatted. Based on this thread, I am not the only customer experiencing this. The issue needs to be escalated ASAP.
You are not understanding myself and others on this thread! The SSN associated with my business is and always has been correctly entered and displayed in my account settings. I have made no changes this year and have had no problems with past year 1099-MISC filings. The 1099-MISC's I created and electronically submitted via QuickBooks a few days ago were rejected by the IRS today. I did not notice until I received their email, but YOUR 1099 FORM SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE GLITCHING! My business SSN (formatted XXX-XX-XXXX) was automatically populated in the 1099-MISC forms as an EIN (XX-XXXXXXX). There is no where for a customer to change this or force it to be corrected. THIS MATTER NEEDS TO BE ESCALATED & FIXED ASAP, as the continued canned responses are not helpful. It's nothing any of us are doing incorrectly, or can fix on our own.
I appreciate your BOLD comments. This is a ridiculous error on the part of QBs. How could they miss this? Or, maybe they are ignoring it because of the way the site is set up and it's a pain to go back a correct it. In any event, I just going to file by hand if I have to. I think we should be asking for a refund of some sort given the fact that they cannot provide accurate 1099s for SSN based businesses. Frustrating and time consuming. Over it.
Quickbooks, please solve this problem that many users are having. It should be a quick fix. This software error is causing me to delay filing.
I am having the same issue... This didn't happen last year. Very frustrating
Quickbooks needs to resolve this issue. My business is a sole proprietorship and where I have always had a SSN entered for my business an unknown EIN was populated. I am unable to format a SSN and was told that this was blocked in January by the Help Desk and that this is currently an issue. My 1099s were rejected by the IRS. I need to file these by 1/31 and have no way around this. I need the SSN to also be printed for my business on the subcontractor's 1099-NEC forms. There must be a way to resolve this. I am being asked to void and resubmit, but the same problem exists. I have used Quickbooks for five years for my 1099s and this has never been an issue before. I have spent countless hours with the Help Desk with no resolution. Please advise and provide guidance how to enter my SSN. Additionally when you click on the EIN, there is a notice that Sole Proprietorships do in fact use a SSN for tax id purposes, but the formatting will not work and I am blocked from entering. Thank you for correcting this issue as soon as possible and making those impacted aware.

They are rejecting them!? Oh NO! I was told by multiple people in customer service that it was 100% ok to send them this way and that the IRS might even prefer it. They also said "this is the right way".
It actually changed the formatting on my company info in settings now too and I can't go back there now either.
I've spent hours and hours on the chats and on the phone. Nobody seems to understand what we are saying. One person even put it in writing in the chat that I should just make up some random number for our tax ID number as the IRS doesn't care about that. Another told me I needed to make the owner of the company a contractor so that they would get a 1099, I'm not falsifying $600 and income to the owner of the company and that doesn't make sense anyhow. Others are telling me this is totally fine, but they also refuse to put that in writing. Good thing in my state you can record phone calls! I am about to get fired for this as my boss is telling me just to fix it and I can not legally send these in filled out by hand anymore as the new laws state that it must be e-filed if there are more than 10. PLEASE HELP!!!
I am not going to spend more time on the phone. The support team should know by now there is a problem. I will patiently wait for them to fix it.
I think we need an answer on the thread, especially since this seems to be a major issue.
QUICKBOOKS...The simple fix, it seems, is correcting the drop down under Contractors filing as a business. EIN should not be the only option. There should be a choice between SSN (for sole proprietors not using an EIN) and EIN for others.
The only other from what I could figure out playing around with the pages is to log those business contractors using a SSN instead of EIN as vendors. It allows them to be tracked for 1099 as well as use their SSN.
Did QuickBooks reach out with the answer? Were you able to figure out a solution for this? I am having the same problem.
I spent a few hours talking with Quickbooks with no resolution. My advice, is void it in QBO and use a different program (efile4biz) or mail in your 1099s this year. They told me there was nothing wrong and that the irs will accept the forms with the SSN in the EIN format… it doesn’t seem to be a high priority for them to fix. They kept telling me to make sure I have everything entered correctly.
If you have more than 10 1099's you can get fined up to $290 per document if you mail them in this year. You have to e-file.
You can't put the social in place of he EIN if you are filing as a business contractor.
I'm having the same issue. QuickBooks is wrong! And deadline is approaching!
That is ridiculous. My 1099 got rejected because of the EIN format of my client's SSN. QBO is wrong & we can't fix it!
yep, mine got rejected!
wow - quickbooks, huge mistake/issue!
nope, mine got rejected this morning
