If Turbotax is free for some users, should I be paying for the Quickbooks/Turbotax bundle and just keep the Quickbooks SE?

I am currently paying the $17 monthly fee for Quickbooks SE/Turbotax bundle, but I wonder if this is necessary. I use Quickbooks mostly for mileage tracking feature and for some SE stuff; I then file my taxes through the Turbotax.  But isn't Turbotax low cost or free if one makes a low income: Because I am starting out in my business (since last year) my net income from my SE business is small (<$10K), and given that I am in school full-time, I don't anticipate taking on more work hours, so my income should not get much greater.

If this is true, I can then change my plan to just the Quickbooks or use another mileage tracking/hours tracking app, I suppose.

Good day, Irascible,

The Tax Bundle subscription lets you use both of our QuickBooks Self-Employed app and TurboTax Self-Employed. It comes with free e-filing for one federal and one state return. You can also export your data directly to TurboTax from your QBSE account.

You can change your subscription to QBSE only. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Billing info.
  3. At the bottom of the Billing Info page, select Cancel now.
  4. Select the Keep QuickBooks Self-Employed option.
  5. Select Change subscription.

You can check the TurboTax website about the free edition: https://turbotax.intuit.com/.
