We encountered a bug with quickbooks that ended up forcing us for purge our environment to fix it (after hours of talk with support)
In the process of rebuilding, we realized that the products page had a different interface, and we can't seem to add product categories and subcategories via CSV, which we definetly could before the purge.
How can I switch to the other interface? it's unthinkable for us to manually insert categories, it's hundreds of products we're importing
thanks

Thanks for bringing this concern to my attention, Matteo. Let me share an information about importing product categories and subcategories using CSV file.
Importing categories using CSV file is currently available on the BETA interface in QuickBooks and to some customers. However, if you have the old version when you create the new company account, you can't switch it to the new one and vice versa.
You can view the screenshot below for the BETA and old Products & Services interfaces for comparison:
Moreover, since you can't add a category column while importing your file, you can add the categories and subcategories in the Product name. However, you can't view them when you run a report about your product.
Please refer to the screenshot below for the format:
Additionally, you can use a report to see your sales and inventory status in QuickBooks. You may also run other financial reports and customize them according to your preferences.
Keep me posted if you have other questions about importing categories using CSV file or any other QuickBooks-related concerns. I'll be here to provide you with the assistance you'll need.

This is a huge problem for us.
We analyzed QBs as it was presented to us when we bought it, and came up with a soution and a timeline for the transition based on that (meaning we used some python code to transform thedata instead of an RPA solution, which could have added the categories to the old interface)
We now don't have the time nor the resources to adapt the data transformation to the old interface.
We can't possibly manually enter the categories and subcategories for hundreds of products.
IS there a way to escalate this so we can be switched back to the beta version?
I appreciate you for getting back to us, Matteo.
It's really more convenient to directly import existing data without making any changes. Let me route you to the appropriate support so you can upload your information seamlessly.
As mentioned by my colleague above, customers on the older version don't have the ability to switch to the BETA interface, where you can upload your product categories and sub-categories with different columns. Therefore, I recommend contacting our customer support team so they can investigate this further and provide resolution updates via email.
Here's how:

On the other hand, you might want to review this material for additional information on updating the item type of your existing products and services: Change product and service item types in QuickBooks Online.
Please keep in touch if you need further assistance importing product categories and sub-categories or other related concerns in QuickBooks Online. We're always here to help.
Nevermind, I don't know what you meant by "categories won't show in reports", but doing what you reccomended to register categories solved our problem.
Thanks!
