Increase SALE price of an Assembly when one of the BoM items increases in SALE price

I'm looking to increase the sale price of an assembly item automatically or by batch when we increase the sale price of one of it's bill of material items.

Our company sells inks in both raw colours and mixed colours. Our price list for the customers only contains the raw colours , as the pricing for our mixed colours is calculated by the percentage of the formula of all the required colours. We use a simple spreadsheet to calculate the initial price when adding a new formula. We add an additional line item to the sales orders to cover the labour and other costs involved. Our unit of measure is in KG/LBS in case that's needed and we use Enterprise.

For example, we sell Red ($1), Yellow ($2) and Blue ($3) as standard inventory items and Orange ($1.50) and Green ($2.50) as assembly items (50/50 mix in this case).

Is there a way to automatically or batch increase the sale price of the assembly items by the same amount that the raw colour does? Relative to the formula of course. Say we increase the sale price of Red from $1 to $2, can we update the sale price of Orange to $2 without doing it manually?

We have thousands of formulas, so we've always done a blanket increase by x% across everything with our previous software to avoid the hassle of manually calculating the pricing increase based on the formula.

I can't seem to find anyone else asking this, so apologies if this has already been answered previously. I also don't know what the term for this could be as I'm not an accountant, so that could be why I haven't found anything.

Thank you for your help.

Increase SALE price of an Assembly when one of the BoM items increases in SALE price

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, @Aunders. Thanks for sharing detailed information about your concern. I'm here to share some insights about increasing the price of assembly items when one of its bill of materials change.

In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), the option to automatically change the price of an assembly item when increasing the sales price of its bill of materials is unavailable. You'll have to update the information manually. Refer to the steps below:

  1. In your QBDT account, go to the Lists menu.
  2. From there, look for the assembly item you need to update.
  3. Double-click the item.
  4. Once opened, update the Sales Price of the assembly item.
  5. When finished, select OK.

For reference, please see this article: Combine your inventory items to build finished goods.

QBDT also offers several inventory reports that you can access to track your sales. To get started, simply go to the Reports menu and scroll down to the Inventory section. From there, select the report you want to open.

Let me know how the steps go and feel free to leave a reply below. I'm always happy to lend a hand in case you have additional questions about managing assembly items in QBDT. Have a great day ahead and take care.
