Join nowI have the 2006 QB desktop that has been used by many people for our small Church. I took over the books 3 years ago and have tried to "fix" things. Was finally told to just start a new whole accounting system and keep the old QB program for records. I purchased the QBO and used it for a year, did not like it so purchased the 2019 QB Desktop. When I attempted to download it onto the company computer it wanted to replace the 2006 version. I don't want the old information in the 2019 version. I had to download on my little laptop to perform my duties as Treasurer, I want to remove this from my computer and install it onto the Churches computer. How can I do this?
To start with:
You did not have to replace the 2006 program by using Express setup. Advanced setup and install allows multiple years of QuickBooks to coexist on same computer.
You are allowed per the EULA to install the program on a second compatible computer. Download from your camps.intuit.com account. Choose Advanced this time. But i fear that a computer so old that it might have been new in 2006 will not meet the minimum specs for QB2019. Review those first.
The program is just the program. The data file is separate. You would have extreme difficulty updating the 2006 data file to be opened and run by the 2019 program without 4-5 intermediate upgrades.
Your destination computer must meet the following specs to install QB2019 on it and since it hails from circa 2006, unless Windows XP or Vista was upgraded to Win 7 at some point, do not even try. 1. XP/Vista are no longer supported by microsoft and are considered unsafe to connect to the internet in this day and age - they are considered obsolete.
It might behoove you to ask the congregation for a donation of a 2-3 year old extra computer to use. And you might consider looking at any offerings for non-profits at techsoup.org where sometimes just for an activation fee you can get donated QB licenses. You may also wish to look at specific non-profit editions
