When I run Intuit Data Protect, it says that the version I am using is not up to date. When I try and update, nothing happens and IDP is not updated. I have automatic update on in Quickbooks and the IDP file has been updated. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks for returning to this thread, @MurphyLuth. Let me step in and share information about why you're unable to update your Intuit Data Protection (IDP) in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

I appreciate you providing us with a screenshot so we can have a visual of the issue. As per checking, we currently have an investigation about being unable to update the IDP. Rest assured our engineers are diligently working to provide a fix as soon as possible.

As a workaround, you can update IDP via the OCD folder. Before doing so, ensure your QBDT is on its latest release and build. Then, follow these steps:

  1. Open the About IDP window and take note of the IDP version.
  2. Press Ctrl Alt Delete simultaneously on your keyboard, then click Task Manager. Once done, end the following executable files: Intuit Data Protect.exeIBuengHost.exeQBIDPService.exe.
  3. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks XX.0\Components\DataProtect\OCD. The XX.0 refers to the version of your QBDT.
  4. Right-click on IntuitDataProtect.exe and select Properties.
    image.png
  5. Compare its version to the one you see in the About IDP window from Step 1. If the IntuitDataProtect.exe is on the newer version, proceed to the next steps. Otherwise, reinstall your QBDT to force IDP to update to the most recent. Then, continue to Step 6.
    image.png
  6. Double-click the OCD folder to open it and copy all stored contents. Then, go to the IDP folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\DataProtect) and paste them.
  7. From the same IDP folder, copy Bueng32.dll and paste it into the Sym32 folder. Similarly, copy Bueng64.dll and paste it into the Sym64 folder.
  8. Start the QBIDPService.exe. To do that, go to Start and search for Services. Open the Services.msc tool and ensure QBIDPService.exe is running. If not, start the exe.
  9. Launch IDP and open the About IDP page. Verify if the version has been updated.

While the investigation is ongoing, I recommend reaching out to our customer support team so you'll be included in the list of affected users. This way, you'll receive email updates regarding the case status.

Furthermore, free up backup space in IDP if you've reached the storage capacity of 100 GB. Doing so ensures that your backups will continue to run seamlessly.

Let me know in the comments below whenever you need additional assistance with IDP. We're always around to continue helping you. Stay safe and have a wonderful day ahead.

Intuit data protect

I see you're having an issue with Intuit Data Protect (IDP), Murphy. Rest assured, I'm here to share
insights and help you get this fixed.

After your QuickBooks updates, IDP automatically backs up your company file once daily. However, it's possible that a system component is blocking the backup or has been damaged during the update.

To ensure IDP works effectively, it requires access to your firewall. Therefore, I recommend verifying that your firewall settings permit the necessary files for optimal performance.

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, and type Firewall in the search field.
  2. Select Allow an app through Windows Firewall, then Allow another app.
  3. Click Browse and go to Program Files(x86) \Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect.
  4. Choose QBIDPservice.exe, then Open.
  5. Select Network types and select the Private checkbox. Select Add.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the files IBUenghost.exe and IntuitDataProtect.exe. If you get a message saying the files already exist, you’re all set.

Intuit_Data_Protect.gif

Then, let's make sure Intuit websites are trusted sites with Internet access and Google Chrome. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Click the Windows key on your keyboard. Then, type Internet options in the search field.
  2. Select Security and Trusted sites.
  3. Choose Sites and add the following websites. You can copy and paste or type them manually. Select Add for each site.

Intuit Data Protection does work and most of the time I get a good daily backup. My question is why I cannot update to the latest version. It is not preventing my backups but it gets annoying to be asked to update and it does not work. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for coming back. I've got you covered on how to update your Intuit Data Protect to the latest version in QuickBooks Desktop, MurphyLuth.

We can run the IDP Diagnostic tool to detect an issue with a firewall or third-party security software preventing you from updating to the latest version. Here's how:

  1. Right-click the Intuit Data Protect (green padlock) icon in the Windows System Tray (typically located at the bottom right of your screen). Then, tap About Intuit Data Protect.
  2. On your keyboard, press Ctrl+F2 to launch the Intuit Data Protect Diagnostics Tool.
  3. Click Run Diagnostics. If the Diagnostics Tool detects an issue with a firewall or third-party security software, we'll need to reconfigure the software and/or hardware to allow access to Intuit Data Protect files. For information about configuring your security software and/or hardware, check your manufacturer’s website, then add the following files for exceptions:
  • C:\Program Files(X86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect\IntuitDataProtect.exe
  • C:\Program Files(X86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect\IbuEnghost.exe
  • C:\Program Files(X86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect\QBIDPServices.exe

Once done, add Windows Firewall ports. Let me guide you on how:

  1. Go to the Start menu, then type Control Panel in the search field.
  2. Go to System and Security. Choose Windows Firewall, then select Advanced Settings.
  3. On the left side of the Advanced Settings window, click Inbound Rules. Choose New Rule from the right side of the same window.
  4. Enter the ports, then select Next.
  • Incoming Port: 80
  • Outgoing Ports: 443, 16841
  1. Intuit Data Protect connects to the Internet through HTTP ports 80 and 443. If you can browse the internet and log in to secure websites, Intuit Data Protect should work.
  2. Follow the prompts. Then, follow steps 1-4 for Outbound Rules.

Then, download the latest update for Intuit Data Protect again. Here's how:

  1. From the Help menu, select Update QuickBooks.
  2. Tap the Update Now tab.
  3. Make sure you select Data Protect from the list, then click Get Updates.

  2. Right-click the Intuit Data Protect icon and select About Intuit Data Protect. The icon looks like a green padlock.

Thanks for returning to this thread, @MurphyLuth. Let me step in and share information about why you're unable to update your Intuit Data Protection (IDP) in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

@Ramer

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

Ramer

Thanks for response, I have not tried work around yet, what i have done is restart the QBIDP Service and restart computer, this changes the IBuEngHost.exe to a system user, That gets Data Protect working like it should for a while, then it reverts back to IBuEngHost.exe running in administrator and the service quits running. Lately the IBuEngHost.exe actually disappears from the taskmaster window. However if I repeat the steps above it comes back as it is supposed to.

So I can get Data protect to work with some aggravation on my part.

I still do have the error stating that i'm not running the latest version of data protect, and i have not been able to update.

If there is a fix coming for that i may just wait and continue doing what i'm doing.
