Good evening, @Fast Bicycle.
Welcome to the Community!
I'm here to assist you in getting through this 'Invalid Product Number' prompt message in your QuickBooks Point of Sale. Here are the possible reasons why you get an Invalid Product Number error:
Have you checked all three of these reasons? I'll be waiting for your response!
Hello Candice!!!! Thanks for the reply.
Please help as I am losing business since 11:30 this morning with no access to our POS system, also thank you for your help!!!
Hello Candice,
Thanks for your response!!!
How do I fix the compromised files if corrupted?
The POS 19.0 has been running for the last 5-6 years and hasnt changed so I dont think that is it.
I have checked Windows my info and it shows that I am Admin, is there another place I need to check?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!! I am dead in the water without my POS system and have been trying to get it back up and running since 11:30 this morning
@Fast Bicycle "I have checked Windows my info and it shows that I am Admin, is there another place I need to check?"
I don't have anything to say about the other possibilities, but if you right-click the icon, the menu will contain a 'Run as administrator' option for most any program.
Your efforts in performing the suggested resolution are greatly appreciated, FastBicycle. I'll share important details about the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Point of Sale (POS) 19 account.
Firstly, this unexpected behavior you've experienced happens after a Windows OS update in the background. We've received similar reports regarding this issue before. Moreover, we're unable to provide further assistance since the QBDT POS is no longer supported.
You can consider Shopify for your next POS. Please check out these articles below to connect with others for reviews in their digital community, and check out their help center for a complete library of how-to articles and videos:
I'll also share this helpful article for more information about the discontinuation of QBDT POS: QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale discontinuation.

We are still using QB POS for a few things. Unfortunately today, We had an accidental power outage to our computer. When I turned it back on QB would not open fully due to "invalid product code". I tried rebooting. Is this something QB has done all of a sudden?
Candace, I read about cleaning out the Entitlement folder. It states that I will be prompted to get another code or registration from Intuit QB. Will QB cooperate with me on this? I still need the program. Thanks
So I was able to get mine working again as some of you have suggested, here is what I did to get mine to work as nobody really points it out really anywhere I was looking.
In windows look for:
Program Data --> Intuit Folder --> Entitlement Client --> v8 --> Delete the contents of the folder (do not delete v8 as I did before.
After the last step, reopen POS 19.0, if I remember correctly, it asked to send registration to Intuit, did so and I was good to go.
A 4.5 hr fiasco but it is up and running again.
The error regarding an invalid product number occurs when the key authentication files are corrupted or missing, Stan. Allow me to discuss this further for clarification.
Indeed, you'll need to get another code or registration to troubleshoot the error. However, Desktop Point of Sale has been discontinued since October 3, 2023. Therefore, we can no longer provide further assistance and give another product code or registration.
Alternatively, you'll want to look for a third-party application to extract your data without launching the program. You can then look for another POS system to manage your stores.
Moreover, you can check out this article for a thorough discussion on POS discontinuation and guidance if you decide to migrate to Shopify: QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale discontinuation.
Post again in this forum or reply to this thread if you have additional questions about fixing errors encountered in QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale. We've got your back!
Thanks for the tip. When did you do this procedure? QB no longer offers ANY support for it's POS including codes and registration numbers. Please let me know. Thanks
