Our company makes candles. We receive in inventory, such as wicks, wax, jars, fragrance oil, and labels. We then assemble these items to make a final product for sale. At this point, we are having difficulty figuring out how we pull from our inventory to our finished product. Our accountant suggested creating a Finished Products Item for each of our candles. For example, we would have Finished Products and the sub-item would be a Pear Whiskey 13.7 oz candle. The inventory to make the candle may be .62 ounces of fragrance oil, (1) wick, 1.4 ounces of wax, (1) label. Ideally, we would like to show only the Finished Product from the invoice, but accurately pull the correct amounts from inventory to make the Finished product. We have Desktop Pro and understand that we may need an Inventory Assembly function in order to complete this. We are looking for a way to do this without upgrading, if possible. Thanks!
I would recommend 2 options:
1. Upgrade to QBD Premier with a one time license. You may purchase it with a lower cost thru a partner/reseller.
2. Having an inventory management app to integrate with your QBD Pro.
Thanks! We upgraded to Premier. We are now using the Inventory Assembly and Bill Materials for a finished product. We do need to figure out how to put some of these into product testing. We need inventory to go into a Product Testing expense account. I assume there is a way to use this as well to Assemble things into a Finished Product for Product Testing, but I am having trouble figuring it out. The final product will always be a candle, but some candles are used for Product Testing (never sold) and some candles are sold. I am sure it is just a matter of using the correct expense account, but I tested and it did not work. If I create an Inventory Assembly for an 11 oz candle, complete the Bill of Materials, I need to create a sub account for Product Testing, but I was not sure which Item to select - inventory part, inventory assembly, other, etc. There is no income from a finished candle for product testing. If you have any thoughts on how to decrease inventory using the Inventory Assembly that would be really helpful. Thanks!
