Job related budgets

I have a question about setting up budgets.  I need to be able to create job related budgets with contractual budget limits so that when I create an invoices it goes against the job budget.  I see where to do it but the accounts in that section are the chart of accounts and the items I need are in the item list section. For example

Construction Documents or CEO.  These are all phases of the jobs I would be billing for, but the budget only

has chart of accounts in them.  Is there a way to change this to Item list instead of chart of accounts to choose from?

Job related budgets

Although there isn't a way to create a job-related budget using the item list in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you can still consider creating a budget plan for the relevant accounts associated with the items and running relevant reports for tracking purposes. I can guide you through the process.

 

First, review the items and take note of the accounts where the items are associated. Then, proceed with creating a budget.

 

Once done, run the Item Profitability and Budget vs Actual reports to track the actual cost, budget, and actual revenue of your items. Then, export both reports and manually combine the data outside the software. You can follow these steps: 

 

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. To run both reports:
    a. Select Item Profitability from Jobs, Time & Mileage.
    b. Select Budget vs Actual from Budgets & Forecasts.
  3. Export both reports outside QBDT. 

 

If this option isn't viable for you, I'd suggest looking for a third-party application to integrate into QBDT that has a budgeting tool you need for your items: Find Applications

 

However, I recognize that it's important that the software accommodates various business needs. I'd still encourage sending your suggestion to our Product Engineers to implement the function of creating budgets from your Item list.

 

  1. Select the Help option.
  2. Select the Send Feedback Online option.
  3. Select the Product Suggestion option. A pop-up window displays.
  4. Enter your feedback suggestion.
  5. Click the Send Feedback button.
