line item discount

I would like a line item discount.  In my case, equipment rentals, it is crucial for applying different discount amounts to different items quickly as well as tracking what each item is actually earning over the course of the year.

It appears to be in option in other countries (India) quickbooks.

I posted this January 11, 2020 05:11 AM and know others can use it as well.

I'll help you add a line item discount on your sales form, @mccrarystv.

If you provide repeated or special discounts, you can add a discount as a line item plus a description to your sales form. You can add specific amount for the discount, not by percentage.

First, you need to create a discount item.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and then Products and Services.
  2. Click New.
  3. Select Non-inventory or Service for the type.
  4. Enter the name Discount in the Name field. If you want to create multiple discount items, give each discount a unique name.
  5. In the Sales price/rate field, enter the discount as a negative amount. Keep in mind this is a dollar amount and not a percentage.
  6. From the Income account  dropdown, select Discounts given.
  7. From the Sales tax category ▼dropdown, select Nontaxable.
  8. Click Save and close.

You can now add the discount item to your sales form. Follow the steps below.

  1. Go to + New.
  2. Select InvoiceEstimate, or Sales receipt.
  3. Add your products or services in the Product/Service column.
  4. Add the discount item you just created in the Product/Service column. You can adjust the discount if you need to. Just make sure it's a negative amount.
  5. Fill out the rest of the form.
  6. Click Save.

You can check this article to learn more about adding discount to an invoice or sales receipt: Add a discount to an invoice or sales receipt in QuickBooks Online.

I'm also adding this article for future reference running reports in QuickBooks Online: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have additional questions about adding discount in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.

line item discount

I posted about this 3 years ago and it has since been deleted.

No work around that includes creating a product/service is helpful so please do not junk up the thread with those replies.  The only solution is a proper line item discount which we know is possible in other countries.

Please only reply with a timeframe of when this feature will be available.

The discount itself is not another item. It is particular to that one product/service. I have to believe you guys understand what I am looking for.
