Anyone else have issues with this?
When I first starting using QuickBooks 3 years ago the text selection/edit was just like any other text editing app like word or any text entry box on any web site on the internet. However, at some point through gazillion changes and, uhhmm, "improvements" the text boxes no longer behave line any normal text entry.
Normally when you place your mouse pointer on text and click it places the curser wherever you clicked. Like in the middle of a word and you can start typing right there to add a letter or delete. Or you could select a word or section and it will highlight that portion. But QuickBooks, at least on my end, no longer works like that. When you click text on a line item description, to drop your curser into text or highlight a section it acts like its going to do that, but then, it automatically selects all the text in the box. So if you were going to add a letter to a word or delete just a sentence it deletes your entire description and then you have to ctrl z, and finagle with it to make it do what you need it to.
This seems like a minor annoyance to complain about but on something like this, an absolutely standard universal text editing behavior on every other app or website on the planet, to expect users to adapt a behavior that is completely decades of muscle memory just because QuickBooks wants to make one text entry box behave differently than all others is crazy. (The bill to and ship to text boxes on the same form behave completely normal.) And the amount of time over-all since this change took place that I have spent to ctrl z and finagle the stupid thing every time I edit is enough to drive someone insane!
@TeleToast And this is the program that QuickBooks is attempting to strongarm their Desktop users into migrating to.
One has to wonder at the thought process. Maybe they're just not able to datamine to their satisfaction on Desktop.
Having issues with selecting text in the line item will surely delay your working progress, @TeleToast. I understand the importance of editing the line item without automatically deleting the entire description.
Let me provide some insights on how to bypass the issue of selecting line items in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
To begin with, the option to automatically select all the text in the text box in QBO is working as designed. To prevent the entire line item description from being deleted, you can double-click on the word or sentence that you want to add or delete in the description, using the mouse pointer on your computer, before attempting to edit the sentence.
Here's how:
Once you've done this, you'll be able to edit the line item description without deleting the entire thing.
However, if you'd like to have the option to add a letter without deleting the entire description, I encourage you to share your thoughts and suggestions through our feedback channel. Our product developers are open to suggestions to improve our products and meet our customer's business needs.
Here's how:

@Clark_B Tell me that you didn't read what @TeleToast wrote without telling me you didn't read it.
What you just described as the solution IS the problem I just described.
Imagine: It's like, everyday of your life I walk to the end of your driveway to check the mail in your mailbox. Just like every other mailbox in the world, you walk up to it, pull the lever and open the little door. You've done it this way forever, all your neighbors do it this way, the whole planet does it this way for forever.
Now just imagine: One day you walk out there and the little door no longer works that way. You finally figure out someone changed it so that instead of just pulling the lever, NOW you have to touch your nose first and then pull the lever on the little door or it doesn't work right. WHY?!?!?! Would we call that a QuickBox just to be ironic?
Why would you do this? It worked fine before; better even. Why would your company devote resources to change it to make it work this way? The other text fields right next to it on the same form don't even work like that. Just change it back.
I've used this for 3 years and I can only imagine if you ran my physical life like you ran my books application: One day I'd find all my light switches were installed on the floor, and one day my toilet would show up next to my refrigerator, and then the next day it would be on my porch, and then the hot and cold faucets would be switched. You have to consider the effects all the changes make on the end user. My workflow is constantly being disrupted by dealing with needless changes.
