Lot Numbers

Hi,
Trying to enable lot numbers and received following error.  "Some transactions have multiple serial numbers on a single line, but you can only have 1 lot number per transaction line. You must delete all but 1 serial number from each line before QB can switch to lot numbers."
How do I fix this error?

Lot Numbers

Hello there, Nathan.

I'm here to help fix the error you received.

As what  the warning says, you can only add one lot number per single line. To fix this, you'll have to modify the transaction manually and then delete the lot number.

I've also added these references as your guide about managing serial and lot numbers:

Keep me posted whenever you have concerns about QuickBooks. I've got your back!

Adrian,

Thanks for info, although I'm not in any transaction to modify. I'm trying to enable lot numbers from Company Preferences tab and received following error- "Some transactions have multiple serial numbers on a single line, but you can only have 1 lot number per transaction line. You must delete all but 1 serial number from each line before QB can switch to lot numbers."

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for getting back, Nathan.

I understand how you wanted to add multiple Lot numbers on a single line item. However, as per my colleague mentioned above, the only way we can proceed with the transaction is to modify it.

We want to comprehend your preferences for the application. Having that said, I encourage you to send Feedback directly to our product development team. This will enable us to better understand how to meet the needs of your business. Depending on how many requests they get, they could also add this functionality to later editions. You can accomplish this by following the instructions listed below:

  1. At the top, select the Help menu.
  2. Choose to Send Feedback Online then click Product Suggestion.
  3. Type in your feedback or feature request.
  4. Click the Send Feedback button.

If you have any further queries about QuickBooks, let me know in the comments below. I'll be here immediately to assist you. Have a good one!

Jill,

Thanks for response, although I am not wanting to add multiple lot numbers per item and I'm not in any transaction to modify. I'm trying to enable lot numbers from Company Preferences tab and received error message that's attached. Hopefully the attached pic better explains what I'm trying to accomplish. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for sharing a screenshot, Nathan at Kasten.

I've got your back! Let me share some troubleshooting steps to get this sorted out.

There might be an issue with your company file's data that's causing the error message to pop up when turning on the Lot numbers feature. I recommend running the Verify and Rebuild utility. The tool scans data issues within the company file and self-resolves them.

Beforehand, make sure to create a backup of your file. If there are any changes occur, having a copy allows you to restore it to undo the changes.

Follow the steps below on how to verify data:

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
  4. Click OK if QuickBooks detected no problem with your data.
  5. If Verify finds an issue with your data, you'll be prompted to Rebuild Now or View Errors.
  6. Click Close or View Errors and take note of the specific error message.

Then, here's how to rebuild data:

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Rebuild Data.
  4. Click OK if you receive a prompt to back up your company file.
  5. Click OK if Rebuild has been completed, and proceed to the next step.
  6. Run Rebuild Data again to make sure there's no error.

Also, please ensure that QuickBooks is updated to the latest release. This keeps the program up-to-date so you have the latest features and fixes.

Once done, try turning on the lot numbers feature.

Additionally, I've included an article that'll help you assign a unit of measure in QuickBooks. This ensures you can easily track your items: Show Quantities, Prices, Rates, and Costs for an Item.

I'm only a few clicks away if you need assistance in managing your inventory in QuickBooks. It's always my pleasure to help you out.

Charlene,

I've Rebuilt the Data and then ran Rebuild Data again verify no errors. Unfortunately, still receive the same error message (attached). Any thing else I can try?

Thanks,

Nathan
