Once you upgrade your version of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, the company file from the 2016 version will be transferred. All you'll need to do is install the 2021 program on your computer with the new license and product details, then open your company file from 2016 in the 2021 program.
QuickBooks asks you to upgrade your company file the first time you open it in the newer version. Just click OK. Please know that once you do this, you won't be able to open your company file in your original version of QuickBooks.
If you haven't installed the 2021 version, you may follow this:
- Sign in to Windows as an admin user.
- If you haven't already, download your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
- Follow the steps to install your new version.
