MAC-Move 2015 QB on external (Sierra) to updated version on newer MAC with Sonoma

I love Quick books and have been a user since 1999! I currently have 2 Mac Book Pros.  My old 2013 MAC had High Sierra OS and I had my QB 2015 on it.  I backed everything up on an Toshiba external Hard Drive.  I updated to Big Sur 11.7.10.  I did get an alert about 2 programs that needed updated, but I don't use them so didn't worry about them.  I got nothing about QB and YES, I should have known better and thought about this. Now, I can't pull anything up from QB.

I have a newer MAC book Pro that I have recently updated to Sonoma 14.2.1 and has never had QB on it.

While I was originally fine with keeping the QB on a separate MAC, since this didn't work immediately with my OS upgrade, I prefer to put QB on my newer MAC.

Unfortunately I can't get into my external to pull up QB --Which is most likely user error since Ive never done this before and I am not computer savy for this kind of stuff and Im just afraid of "trying" things on my own for fear of deleting anything while Im in this panic mode.

Im thinking I need to obtain a new version of QB for my newer Sonoma Mac--but Ive read that for my 2015 data to import I can't just purchase the 2021 and have to update to 2018 first, but Im stuck because I can not get into the 2015 QB to do that.

Please help--can I get support to help me get into the external to get the 2015 updated? Do I need to purchase 2018 or 2021 for my new Sonoma Mac first? or even 2015  BUT I know that wont work on my Sonoma?

Can you still run your QBD 2015 on the old machine? You should be able to open your company file and secure the backup file. Then you can install the trial version of QBD 2019 on Sonoma to restore your backup file as the first step. Contact me in private and we can share the installer file for QBD 2019. Click on my profile name and you will find our website address to send emails.

MAC-Move 2015 QB on external (Sierra) to updated version on newer MAC with Sonoma

Hello Nettie101. I understand your situation and the challenges you're facing with your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2015 data.

To help you resolve this issue, you will need to go through a bridging process by upgrading to the 2018 version first, and then upgrading to the 2021 version. This will allow you to bridge the gap between your current version and the newer one and will ensure that your data is compatible with your newer Sonoma Mac.

You can obtain a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop to restore your backup file as the first step. To get the trial version, you can contact our QBDT technical support team as it can be a bit complex. They will be able to guide you through the steps and help you resolve any issues that may arise during the process.

To contact our support, here's how:

  1. Go to Help and select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Type your issue in the space provided, then select Continue.
  4. Sign in to your Intuit account select Continue and then Continue with my account. If you don't already have an account, make sure to Create a new account.
  5. We'll email you a single-use code. Enter your code and select Continue. If you have more than one account, select the account you want to use and then Continue.
  6. Select to chat with us or Have us call you.

Moreover, it's important to keep in mind that in order to use QBDT 2021, your system must meet certain requirements. To ensure optimal performance, make sure to verify that your hardware, operating system, and other software specifications meet the specific system requirements for the QuickBooks Desktop 2021 version.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team. We're here to help you with your QBDT needs.
