Macbook Apple M2 Pro Chipset as the Host of Windows 11 on Parallels and running Quickbooks Desktop 2023

I am currently running Intel Chip on MacBook Hosting Windows 10 on Parallels running Quickbooks  Desktop 2022. As we all know, technology changes and equipment ages. The next Gen to purchase will be this setup Macbook Apple M2 Pro Chipset as the Host of Windows 11 on Parallels and running Quickbooks Desktop 2023. Parallels will run Windows 11 on Apple Silicon M2 Pro Chip, but will it run Quickbooks Desktop 2023. Anyone know if Quickbooks Desktop 2023 will work on this Apple Chipset?

I'm glad that you reach out first to the Community regarding the compatibility and virtualization setup of the Macbook Apple M2 Pro running QuickBooks Desktop 2023, @ApJu2021.

I'll share some information with you. As of now, we can't provide information on whether QuickBooks Desktop 2023 will work on the new Apple M2 Pro Chipset with Windows 11 running on Parallels.

Intuit, the company that makes QuickBooks, has not yet released any information regarding compatibility with the M2 Pro Chipset or Windows 11.

With that, it's always a good idea to check the system requirements for any software before making a purchase and to contact the software manufacturer directly if you have any specific questions about compatibility with a particular hardware or virtualization setup.

Additionally, I'm providing you with these articles for future reference:

I appreciate the fact that you took time to respond to my question, but I am not sure if you misread or completely understood the question, I would be using Parallels which is a VM, virtual machine on a Apple computer and the VM would be running Windows 11.The links you provided for the requirements are for Quickbooks Mac Plus 2023. With this product you would not be using Parallels and Windows 11, as they were designed to run on the native MacOS, without Parallels and Windows 11. I want you to know in, research through this Forum, I have discovered that Quickbooks 2022 for Windows runs quite well on Apple Chipsets M1 Pro, using Parallels and Windows 11. I imagine that the same will be true for the M2 Pro, as the M2 Pro is simply the same Chipset design, just more powerful than the Mi Pro chipset.

Hey there, @ApJu2021.

Per our system requirements, QuickBooks 2023 will run on Windows 11. Therefore, if Parallels is using Windows 11, you should be fine to use QuickBooks 2023.

You can see our 2023 system requirements in the link I've included below.

I recommend consulting with Parallel to ensure they fully meet the system requirements.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. Take care!

Same question but with Quickbooks 2018 not needing to use any updates for this program?

We appreciate you joining the thread, framesby. I'll provide details about running QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2018 on a MacBook Apple M2 Pro Chipset with Windows 11 on Parallels.

Your QBDT 2018 will operate on the new Apple M2 Pro Chipset with Windows 11 via Parallels. With it as your host, you'll still need to manually apply QuickBooks updates, as it is no longer supported. To download updates directly from our website, perform the following:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page and select the standard setup.
  2. From Select Country, choose your country.
  3. From Select Product, choose your product.
  4. From Select Version, choose your version (2018).
  5. Select Search.
  6. Click Get the latest updates. When the download finishes, open the file to install the update.
  7. When the installation finishes, follow the on-screen instructions.

Additionally, you can host your company data in multi-user mode in QBDT. If you wish to know more about this, please see this article: Set up or troubleshoot a multi-user network.

Fill me in if you have other concerns or questions about the compatibility of QBDT with the M2 Pro Chipset or Windows 11. I'll get back to help and make sure you're taken care of.

Hello,

Hope you are well.

I am also using Parallel VM for windows 11 to run QB Desktop. I want to upgrade my Laptop to M3 Chip.

Currently i am using Intel Based Chip in Macbook Air 2017.

Just wondering, if you got the new laptop M2 Pro chip set?

Any update on this?

Thank you

Hello,

I want to buy a Macbook with the M3 chipset & I will be installing Parallels ( Virtual Machine) to run Windows 11.

I have heard that since Windows 11 is arm-based, QB Desktop will not be installed on ARM-Based Windows 11.

If someone is using a similar kind of Setup then please update me. Please note that I am not talking about installing QB Desktop on a Macbook. I want to install QB Desktop via Virtual Machine Parallel using Windows 11.

Thank you

M2 Pro Chipset performs very well with Windows 11. Because it is an is using Apple Silicon, you have to download a special version of Windows 11 that is based on Snapdragon. It was $212.00 last year…and I have not had any problems with it or the installation. Quickbooks works better than before when on the Intel Chipset.

Thank you for the reply.

Are you using Parallel on M2 Pro chip? & Did you install Windows Snapdragon using Parallel ?

Yes I am using Parallels on M2 Pro Chipset on 2023 Mac Mini, I searched within Parallels support articles relating to Installing Parallels on Apple Silicon. Because you are moving from Intel Processor, you can't restore from a backup, as that MacOS is not compatible with Apple Silicon. If I remember correctly that Parallels will prompt you as to what to do next, including downloading Windows 11 directly in Parallels from a link.

I have been using for over a year with very few glitches. Didn't like having to purchase Windows 11 Snapdragon for $212.00 but when you love Mac and you need to run Windows, it's worth it so that I don't have to have two computers running different Operating Systems.

I have had the same issue and it doesn't FULLY work.  You can open it but it crashes when doing some important tasks i.e. posting transactions once downloaded from Bank Feeds.

Support was no help.  there is NO FIX!!!

Fortunately Parallels and Windows 11 Snapdragon works great. You can not use the regular version of Windows 11 with Parallels...that will crash. I had to purchase Windows 11 Snapdragon from Microsoft for about $200. Did you install Windows 11 Snapdragon version?

No have not installed it but this is a glimmer of hope.  Will give it a try and report back.  All I got back from Intuit is that the hardware and my set-up is not supported.  I asked if i was the only one having this issue.  They are aware of the problem but no fix was on the radar from the engineering team.  While I also don't wish to spend the extra $$$, scrapping QB and going to a new accounting package will certainly cost more than a new OS.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE TIP!!!!!

Happy that I could help send you towards the correct solution. I believe that when you load Parallels onto Mac and install it, the system prompts you to install Windows 11 and the program opens Microsoft.com. I had downloaded from Parallels “A Desktop Guide To Parallels 18” and that is an excellent guide to show you want you need for successful Windows VM. I found it on Support page of Parallels. I hear that Quickbooks for Desktop will only be produced for 3 more years and then it will be phased out and we will all be forced to use Quickbooks Online only. I don’t want to have to be online just to update my company books. Hopefully by then there will be another product that works a well as Quickbooks does for me. I have been using QB since 2002.
