Move Quickbooks 2013 to New Computer

We have single user QuickBooks 2013 Desktop Pro system installed on one of our computers.  That computer is due to be replaced with a newer model in the near future.  Is there a way we can move QuickBooks 2013 from the current machine to the new one?  I checked under File/Utilities, but there is no option listed there for "Move QuickBooks to Another Computer."  I assume that this function was not available in QB 2013, which is why it does not appear on the drop-down menu.  Is there another way we can accomplish the computer move for QB 2013?

Also, I understand that QB 2013 is not compatible with Windows 10.  Is that correct?  If so, it may not run on the new machine which, of course, will have Windows 10 as the OS.

Thanks very much for any assistance you can offer with these questions.

You can try installing 2013 on a win10 machine, It might work. I have 2019 running on win10 and it is not supposed to work but it does.

Chances are though that you are in a bind.  If you have to upgrade to a more current version, there is a problem with the data base - it is not compatible as a direct upgrade.  You will have to find someone with a version of QB (same as you are using, premier/pro, or enterprise) that is 3-4 years newer.  Restore the original data file allowing it to be upgraded, make a back up and save it.  Then do that again for another year version that is 3-4 years newer.  then finally you can restore the back up in the 2021 or 2022 version you buy.

Or you can contact intuit data services and for a fee they will do it.  I have heard that if you buy the new version from intuit, they will do it for free.

Move Quickbooks 2013 to New Computer

Thanks very much for your thorough, helpful reply.  This sounds like a real mess.  Given its age, I have doubts about running QB 2013 Desktop on a Windows 10 machine.  Plus, if the 2013 database structure cannot be upgraded to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop (such as the current 2021 or even 2020), that's another significant obstacle to making this work.  Even if I can convince the user to purchase the 2021 upgrade, it looks like a subscription model product now, rather than the perpetual license (single purchase) that was the QB 2013 framework.  The sole 2021 Desktop product has doubled in price and is now $400.  Even if we pay the $400 and purchase the recurring-cost subscription Desktop 2021 product, I will have to two-step the database conversion process, which would probably involve Intuit support and another possible cost.

Sorry, the QB 2021 Desktop product does not appear to be a recurring subscription product.  If we were to purchase the 2021 Desktop product (single user), the other cost beyond the $400 product would be whatever Intuit Data Services would charge for upgrading the 2013 database to 2021.

@JN92

You can purchase a one time license of QBD Pro/Premier 2021 thru a partner/reseller. You will need to self upgrade your file on the trial license of QBD 2015 and 2018 prior to opening it on QBD 2021. Contact us in private and we may share those trial codes. As another option, you may purchase the license thru us and we will consider to upgrade your file for free.

Move Quickbooks 2013 to New Computer

I am having this problem as well. My husband just got a new computer and we need to move QuickbooksPro 2013 from the old one (which is barely functional at this point). I have installed 2013 on the new computer but it is stuck in a path error loop (see screen shot). If I am understanding this thread, it seems that I will have to upgrade and will need a trial code for 2015 or such because we will have to open and save our company with that before it will open in the latest upgrade. Please advise.

@vkelly3

Try install and run your QBD 2013 in compatibility mode Win 7.

Why do you need the trial version for QBD 2015? Do you need to upgrade your version to QBD 2021 or 2022?
