Moving transactions from one company to another

We recently created a couple new companies and we now need to move all of the existing transactions for several customers from the current company they are in to one of the new companies.  All of the transactions would include invoices, payments made on those invoices, any credit memos, bank transactions, estimates.  Is there a tool that I can use to do this that won't cost us a fortune?

Moving transactions from one company to another

I'm here to help you migrate your data to your new company, dlm0502.

Yes, there is a tool you can use to move your file that doesn't cost anything. We can use the Export data feature to transfer your transactions manually to Excel. Then, import them to the new account.

Here's how to use the feature:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Export data under Tools.
  3. Choose the data you want to export.
  4. Once ready, click on Export to Excel.

To export your non-posting transactions and attachments, I suggest checking out this article: Export Reports, Lists, and Other Data from QuickBooks Online.

Once done, follow the steps below to import your books:

  1. From the Gear icon, select Import data.
  2. Choose the transactions you want to import.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Alternatively, you'll want to consider using a third-party migration tool that will help you transfer your data seamlessly. You can visit our QuickBooks Apps Store page to look for an app. You can also do this inside the program by going to the Apps menu.

Once you move everything successfully, I recommend running reports to review the transactions and ensure your record is accurate.

Please keep us posted if you need assistance while working on your books. We're always here to help you out.

@dlm0502

You can use the following migration tool.

Another option, purchase a 3rd party migration service.

There is no export data option under tools …?

Thanks for joining the thread, @Jumayau. I'll share information about the export data option under tools in QuickBooks.

The outdated stored cache can affect the performance of the program. I recommend accessing your account using a private window. This way, we can determine whether this is a browser cache-related issue.

Incognito mode helps us verify the issue since this doesn't save any files. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + N

If the submitted form shows, clear the browser's cache. Doing so deletes all the data from your browser and optimizes its performance. You may also use other supported browsers as an alternative.

Also, make sure that you have access when exporting your data. This way, you can access all the accounting features in your QuickBooks account. To learn about the various options for user roles and access permissions, please refer to this link: User Roles and Access Rights in QuickBooks Online.

However, if you're using QuickBooks Online Payroll (standalone payroll) the option to view the Export menu under Tools is unavailable. You can only export your data by going to the Payroll Settings. For more details, see this article: Export your payroll data into QuickBooks.

Additionally, I'll be sharing some resources that will guide you on how to move your books and run basic reports in QuickBooks:
