We run a nonprofit and are looking to setup two separate QB Online accounts under the same EIN: one that includes the Payroll feature and one that does not.
My first question is: will this cause any issues?
My second question is: can we receive the nonprofit discount through TechSoup on both accounts?
Thank you!
Hi there, Brechels. In QuickBooks, you can create two separate online accounts with the same EIN. Let me walk you through that process below.
Regarding your first question, it will not cause any issues when you create two accounts as long as you manually check up on your data. However, since you're using the same EIN, this could affect how your report your taxes. I suggest contacting your accountant to help you decide what fits to your needs.
For the other question, ensure that each account separately qualifies for the TechSoup nonprofit discount in QBO. I'd also suggest reaching out to TechSoup support to confirm the application process for multiple accounts.
To set up your account, follow these steps.
Also, you may click the phone number on the QuickBooks page for them to help you with the setup.

Actually, I need the two accounts to be completely separate, with no overlapping data. So, no synchronization. Is that possible under the same EIN?
You can create 2 companies under 1 EIN, but it is not recommended, Brechels. I'll provide more details about this.
Although you can add multiple subscriptions under the same login, we don't recommend it if you'll be using the same EIN. Due to tax payment and filing concerns. If you want to use the same number you can consult an accountant to avoid potential issues.

Additionally, you can also consider exploring the Class and Location tracking function. The Class tracking lets you distinguish your business operations per store departments, product lines, or specific events and segments. Meanwhile, location tracking helps you categorize your data from different sites, offices, regions, or branches under the same company.

You can use QBO to manage your data with payroll. Then you can consider using QB Desktop with a non subscription license to manage data without payroll.
