Old Quickbooks years

Hi, I'm new here! Is it advisable or even possible to get rid of 8-10 year old transactions from Quickbooks? I need to free up room on my desktop. Also, if I trasnfer Quickbooks onto an external hard drive will it just be a back up copy or will it be workable? TIA! Trudy

Old Quickbooks years

Good day, @TrudyT

Thanks for posting to the Community.

We can back up your QuickBooks company file to restored your data. Also, we can move it to your local hard drive to save all your data. However, transferring QuickBooks onto external hard drive is not possible.  Only the company file can back up in QuickBooks.

I recommend reading this article for more details about what hosting providers are authorized by Intuit.

You may have 3 options:

1. Secure your backup file (i.e QBB), copy it to external/portable storage, then restore it

2. Create a new company file and transfer your oustanding data for beginning balance of each aacount.

3. Purchasing a 3rd party file compression service.
