Online Business Plus

I just signed up for Quickbooks Online Plus, we switched from Online Simple Start. I was told I would be able to input Accounts Payables and Receivables, create jobs, etc but so far the layout still looks the exact same as the Simple Start. I was sent some links from the representative that helped me sign up. However, the first video shows how the layout on the taskbar completely different than what mine shows. The video explained i can switch from Business View to Accountant view, however these views both look the same to me.. I cant find where to input payables and there is no spot to create a job. I work for my father in laws small business, and I have experience with Quickbooks but with the desktop version. The online version is very different and none of the videos I was sent help me.

Hi, LD Pools.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I know a way how you can enter Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR), and how to create a job in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In QBO, AR is for invoices while AP is for bills. I'll show you how to enter these transactions.

Creating invoices.

  1. Choose + New.
  2. Tap Invoice.
  3. Tick Add customer and choose a customer from the ▼ dropdown. Make sure all of their info is correct, especially their email address.
  4. Review the Invoice date, Due date, and Terms. Enter new dates or terms, if you need to. Tip: In the Terms field, Net refers to the number of days until the payment is due.
  5. Hit Add product or service.
  6. Select how you want to calculate the charge amount—flat rate, by hour, or by item. Enter a quantity and rate, if needed, and hit Save and close.

Creating bills.

  1. Click + New, then tap Bill.
  2. Fill out the necessary information.
  3. Hit Save.

If you're still unable to create those transactions, let's use a private browser or incognito window to fix the issue. This will eliminate any browser history that may cause a glitch inside QuickBooks. You can refer to the following keyboard shortcuts below:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Once done, try to create invoices and bills, then close out the private window and clear the cache on the regular browser. This will remove previously-stored browsing data that might have caused the issue. Otherwise, you can try other supported browsers to help narrow down the cause of this behavior.

You can also read through this article for more information on managing your A/R and A/P accounts: How to group Accounts Receivable or Accounts Payable account types.

On the other hand, you can check this article to help you create and how it works in QBO:  Set up and create projects in QuickBooks Online.

When everything is good, you might want to read this article for future reference: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online. This link can walk you through the steps in matching your accounts effectively in QBO.

If you have other concerns or questions about supervising your accounts, tag me in your reply. I’d be more than happy to work with you again. Have a great day ahead and always stay safe.
