I have 4 companies books that I currently keep on Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2023. I am thinking of moving to Quickbooks Online, which it seems Intuit is pushing for all customers. However, it looks like I will need a subscription for each different company. Is this correct?

One QBO account is for one company file. You should keep using QB Desktop to manage multi company files. Unless you have other concerns to consider.

Yes, this is the main issue with QuickBooks Online. It does not support managing multiple companies in the same account; you have to create multiple accounts. It means you should create separate accounts for each company file. You can have multiple companies at the same email address, but you have subscription for each company file.
