I am on payroll table version 22211/payroll version 05170812
Everytime I use payroll or check for payroll updates, it installs 22211 then says to restart QB to ensure functionality
After restart, it checks for updates and installs the same update, then says to restart.
It continually does this until I say no to the update dialogue.
I ran The Tool Hub Quick repair, no change.
Rebuild data, no chage. Repair from control panel no change.
I was just on the phone with support for 75 minutes and they abruptly hung up on me. During that time the support person essentially verified my licenses and went through the update loop a half dozen times

I uninstalled and reinstalled and that seems to have fixed all my issues
RE: During that time the support person essentially verified my licenses and went through the update loop a half dozen times.
Did they have you reset the update?
I'd try:
- Restart your computer to make sure no files are in use.
- Launch QB and open your file. Don't update if prompted.
- Pick Employees | Get Payroll Updates.
- Leave the default option "Download entire payroll update", which will reset/delete the current update and start from scratch, and click the Update button.
Did That- No Change
Well, you could try manually resetting the payroll related update files.
- Restart your computer.
- Go to C:\Program Data\Intuit\QuickBooks [version]\components\
- Rename the Payroll folder Payroll.old
- Rename the \DownloadQB[nn]\ folder, where [nn] is your QB version + 10 (so, QB 2021 is 31)
For example, for QB 2021 rename the folder DownloadQB31 to DownloadQB31.old
If you get a sharing violation message that the folder is in use, use the Windows Task Manager to kill the qbupdate.exe process, which you can locate on its Details tab.
- Start QuickBooks
- Get Payroll Updates from the Employees menu
Thanks for the suggestion, but same results.
After I do the Employee- Payroll update, it says to restart, and a new tax table/updates have been installed- PS034. On the view changes window it says its 22211
Go to payroll and start an unscheduled payroll, it wants to update again.
Rinse and repeat.
What exactly does the message say? Maybe a screenshot will help.
On the Payroll Center window, in the upper left, is your Subscription Status OK? It should have a green check mark next to it and no messages telling you do to something like update your account.
I need to update the auto renewal credit card (no effect though, right?)
Start an unscheduled payroll, get this:
After I click yes, it installs then this:
Then This:
Then This:
I restart Quickbooks, The whole process repeats if I start an unscheduled payroll
RE: I need to update the auto renewal credit card (no effect though, right?)
Well.... that might be the issue.
The first message is odd. It suggests there's some sort of pending update waiting to be installed. I suspect that the issue is some setting that indicates there's a pending update that isn't being cleared when you do the update.
I wonder it that would be fixed by fixing the account issue and then trying again?
Another long shot is to go to Help | Update QuickBooks. Then go to the Update Now tab and check the "Reset Update" box and then the Get Updates button. That might reset the flag for a pending payroll update as well as the other updates.
I uninstalled and reinstalled and that seems to have fixed all my issues
