QB Desktop to QB Online conversion

Before you convert the data from your QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, I'll go over some details about Database (DB) file fragments and how to fix them.

Your computer's performance may suffer if there are too many DB file fragments. Less than 100 DB fragments typically have no impact on QuickBooks performance. Being under the target limit of 750,000 is a good thing because if your file exceeds the target limit, it cannot be converted to QuickBooks Online.

Let's manually defragment your server/host hard drive to enhance the efficiency of your computer system. When the disk hasn't been defragmented in a while, the process can take a very long time to finish. It might be best to run it overnight or even on the weekend.

Here's how:

1. From your keyboard, press the Windows logo.
2. Enter defrag.
3. Select Defragment and Optimize Drives.
4. Choose the disk drive you want to optimize.
5. Hit the Optimize button.

Once finished, QuickBooks Desktop users can see their DB file fragment count by pressing F2 or Ctrl + 1.

In our experience we didn't encounter any issue how big the DB File Fragment was. But keep in mind, if your Total Target is between 350K-750K, you can only convert data to QBO Advanced.

Otherwise, you should consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service.
