QB Enterprise ver. 23 exits when going to single user mode.

We recently upgraded to QB Enterprise ver. 23 running on Right Networks remote hosting.  We are a small organization with only 2 users and 6 employees.  QB has started exiting the program when I try to go to single user mode so I can import a payroll .iff file on a random basis.  Some times it can take 2-3 attempts to successfully go to single user mode without QB shutting down.  Then, once the file import is complete QB once again shuts down.

You should contact RN to fix the issue. Otherwise, use another solution to host your QBD program and you can only use QB Desktop Pro Plus or Premier Plus for 2 users.  I'm not sure why you picked QBD Enterprise for your business.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, PortMike.

Since QuickBooks is crashing when you switch to single user mode, I'd recommend making sure your books are up-to-date with their latest release.

Here's how:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to Help, then Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Choose Update Now and click Get Updates.
  3. Once your update finishes, close and reopen QuickBooks.
  4. When asked to install the update, select Yes.
  5. Allow your installation to complete, then follow the on-screen instructions.

If you're already up-to-date, or updating didn't change anything for you, you can troubleshoot with our QuickBooks Tool Hub.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks and download a copy of the utility's most recent version, then run it.
  2. Follow along with your on-screen steps to complete installation and agree with our terms and conditions.
  3. Once it's installed, double-click its icon to open the tool hub. If you can't find your app, perform a search in Windows for "QuickBooks Tool Hub" and select the program.
  4. Access your Company File Issues tab and use the Quick Fix my file and QuickBooks File Doctor tools to troubleshoot your company file. In the event you need additional assistance, choose File Dr Help.

If your books continue crashing while switching to single user mode, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

I've also included a detailed resource about QuickBooks crashing which may come in handy moving forward: While working in QuickBooks, QuickBooks closes unexpectedly (crashes with or without an error)

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a lovely Tuesday!

Thanks for the input.  Unfortunately the QuickBooks Tool Hub will not work in the Right Networks hosted environment.

Me too! After my third call this morning it just started working, they don't know why.  I am leaving it in single user mode to do payroll.  If there is some fix you learn of please let the rest of us know.

Finally found the fix, at least for us. You don't need to be signed into Intuit at the top right-hand corner. Once we signed out of that, no more crashing when switching from single to multi user mode.

Thanks for the fix information!  Hopefully this will help prevent crashes when changing companies also.  Intuit engineers, hope you are paying attention to this irritating solution and can find a solution.

Hi, Thank you for the tip. It worked for us. We've experienced the same problem after trying multiple times on different computers.  We have 6 user licenses and all workstations are up-to-date for the QB Enterprise ver. 23.  After I logged off the Intuit User account on the top right hand corner, QB let me switch to Single User mode.

On a separate note, you can stay in multi-user mode to import a iif file of payroll time.  You just need to be logged in as Admin.
