Why do I have to keep running the file fix tools almost every time I open quickbooks. It will start working but when I switch to another company file it will not open the file or let me go back to the company file I was leaving.
Are you having the problem with the same specific company file?
How big is the file size?
Hello @DDenbow,
Before we can accomplish your goal for today, may I ask for clarification about your company file? Saying you're always in need to use QuickBooks tools, to open them have you received an error code?
Keep me updated in the comments below. Hope to hear from you soon. Take care always!
I have three files. one is 14,996kb and two are 35,000kb.
It will say it cannot open the file after chasing the little blue arrow around for a few minutes. And the File Dr will run for an hour and never complete anything. I tried reinstalling QB today and had issues opening the file but after running repair on one files it opened. Didn't have time to try my other files. I did get an error code but not the one that has a specific fix for it.
Thanks for getting back to us, @DDenbow.

Try open the sample company file, save it as a new file name and close it. Open this new file normally. Do you encounter the same issue?
The error code that comes up is 6123. I have followed all the instructions to repair the file and still keep getting errors.
I have reinstalled twice. Will try renaming old installer to make sure new installer is clean. Everything shows as updated.
Did you you encounter the same error message when opening the sample file?
Did you upgrade your QBD version to QBD 2021?
Reinstalled everythng. I am using QB 2021. Started sample file, entered a couple transactions. closed it and reopened it. Seemed fine. Opened one of my company files. Entered two transactions, closed it and went back to sample file and now it won't open. So I don't know what is corrupting the files. Once I open them that is forcing me to run the fix file tools that may or may not work.

Finally resorted to calling support after I couldn't resolve the problem. Very disappointed, they were happy to escalate my issue if I wanted to convert from my Pro 2021 version to an annual subscription for $349. So basically holding me hostage to get my files fixed if I would convert from my single desktop plan to an annual program. I know it takes investment to keep the program up to date but to force a very small business to convert to an expensive annual plan is not right. Fortunately they did offer an alternative service plan at the end of the call but the monthly plan is just not affordable for a very small business. It should be a third of that cost for an annual subscription.
It looks like your file is corrupted. Are you the only one running QBD at your place? Can you try to open your file on another machine to make sure? Last resort, send one of the company files to me and I will help to check it on one of our machines.
