QBO: Customer Transaction DEFAULT sort order

How do I change DEFAULT sort order of Customers Transactions to DATE instead of STATUS? This (along with so many other QBO issues) is a source of daily irritation and cause of errors and extra work. I have provided feedback multiple times. Is anybody listening over there? Does anyone over there actually use this crappy program?

QBO: Customer Transaction DEFAULT sort order

I have the steps to achieve your goal, co-88. I understand the impact of the default sort order on your work and the additional errors it causes. We value your time and take your concerns seriously.

In QuickBooks Online, the sort order can be changed to display transactions by other criteria, such as date or type. This functionality can be helpful if you prefer to view customer transactions in a different order or want to locate a specific transaction quickly.

The default arrangement of customer transactions is set by date, with the most recent transactions appearing first. Since you mentioned that it was displayed based on status, we can change the sorting method to display transactions chronologically.

To modify the default sort order of all your customer transactions, follow these steps:

  1. Hover over to the Sales menu. Click All Sales.
  2. In the Date field, you can select the specific period you want. Choose your preferred customer if necessary.
  3. Tick the Date dropdown. It is typically displayed as "Most recent" or "Oldest" to sort the transactions in ascending or descending order.

When you sign out, the system will remember your last order and automatically display it when you sign back in.

If you're referring to the list of transactions for a specific customer, here's how to modify the order.

  1. On the Sales page, click Customers.
  2. Press your preferred client and head to the Transaction List tab.
  3. Tick the Date to change the sort order.

We appreciate you expressing your concerns. Rest assured that our engineers will thoroughly review all your submitted feedback. You can track this through our QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

Moreover, you can generate reports to gain valuable insights into your business's financial performance and make informed decisions about allocating resources and planning for the future.

With these changes, your customer transactions will be sorted according to your preference, providing a comprehensive display of your sales history for easy navigation. We still have your back if you have further queries.

Current DEFAULT is STATUS.

QBO: Customer Transaction DEFAULT sort order

I can see that you prefer to set the date as the default order for your customer transactions, co-88. I'll provide some clarification to ensure you can set the default order of your entries based on your preference.

The default display order for customer transactions in QuickBooks Online is the date, sorted from the most recent to the oldest. However, the software uses a sticky feature that remembers your previous activity. It will revert to its original setup once you log in to your company using a different browser or tab.

If you have modified the order of your transactions, it could be why you have STATUS as the default sort order as the system remembers them. To change it back to DATE, you can proceed to the steps provided by my colleague above. You may display the entries from the most recent to the oldest or vice versa.

On the other hand, you might want to scan this resource for guidance informing your customers regarding their outstanding balances or invoices: Create and send customer statements in QuickBooks Online.

QBO: Customer Transaction DEFAULT sort order

Nope - doesn't work - followed directions - exited QBO Desktop App and re-opened - for a Customer's transactions, DEFAULT sort order still DEFAULTS to STATUS.

The web access to QBO times out too fast for me to use it.

I am using QBO Desktop App.

When I view a particular Customer and view all transactions only of that Customer, DEFAULT sort order is STATUS - I want DEFAULT sort order to be DATE.

Hello there, @co-88.

Allow me to provide valuable insights to help you change the sort order to date instead of status and set it as default in the QuickBooks Online Desktop App.

The steps provided by my colleague above should help settle the issue. Since you still encounter the same even after trying the given steps, let's do some basic troubleshooting to resolve this issue.

To begin, if you haven't updated your application I recommend doing so, this ensures that you can download fixes for features that are not functioning as intended or obtain minor application enhancements and compatibility.

If you are using the QuickBooks app on your Windows/Mac desktop you can also try resetting your app data, you may follow the steps below to clear your QuickBooks app's cache:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online Account
  2. Click the Help menu.
  3. Then select Reset App Data.

At the moment, you can temporarily use the web browser to access your account for a smooth workflow.

Crappy QBO program just can't do what I am asking and crappy QBO rep can answer a direct question directly instead gives verbal diarrhea answer and more workarounds. Thanks a bunch (read sarcasm).
