I am running two person small business and I can not afford new pricing and new model of operation. Did You lose Your mind with those prices? I will be looking for alternatives because of that.
Goodbye Quickbooks!
Hi there, @Elusia.
We certainly did not take this decision lightly and recognize the impact it has on our customers. We recognize that a price change like this can be difficult for small business owners and that, just like us, you have to evaluate the value that each of the products and services you pay for are bringing to your business.
A price increase is needed to deliver the products, services, and support that will help you complete your accounting tasks quicker than before. If you want to know what features were added and improved, you may want to visit: QuickBooks Desktop price update.

How many user license do have for QB Desktop Pro?
How many employees do you need to manage their payroll?
I'm looking for alternatives also. Intuit keeps jacking the prices up and pushing us towards cloud based which doesn't always work for me due to lack of good internet service if I'm traveling. They keep coming up with minor changes and improvements to try and make us think we're getting something when they can't even fix the issue with column widths not staying where you laboriously get them like you want them. They tried to charge me for helping with the column issue when it's their issue. I've used Quickbooks since 1996 but if I can find a reasonable alternative that is desktop based, it's bye bye.

I have one license and three employees Last year we only did about 15 jobs. To have to pay over $1,300 for the program and payroll is ridiculous for what we do. There are a lot of issues with the program as far as I'm concerned that aren't ever addressed. We really don't want to do online due to not always having WIFI or cell service.and still needing to work on reports or entries. I just feel like that after all these years Intuit has gotten greedy and feels like they can do what ever they want to because we are hooked now.

I agree with Elusia, Quickbook's pricing direction is insane. I've used Quickbooks for the past 15+ years, but 2023 marks the end of our relationship. I remember the good old days when you purchased Quickbooks software and you actually owned it. A few years ago they started playing the game of turning off bank feeds or other crucial features unless you paid their ransom every 3 years and bought the current version. I didn't like that, but the cost of $325 was reasonable, so I put up with it. Now Quickbook's is demanding $800.00 per year, this is nothing short of insulting and insane. That's nearly an 800% increase for the same software. If could go back in time, I would certainly reconsider my partnership with Intuit and Quickbooks.
Goodbye Quickbooks!
I can't agree more when you add the payroll function it's more like $1300 annually plus a monthly fee for payroll. They are always adding "new" featured that usually don't add real value but gives them an excuse for charging so much. They don't even try to fix old issues like the columns resizing all the time. They charge more but discontinue one really great feature that generally worked great, loan manager. Just says to enter it manually by either hunting up the split between principle and interest or getting another program to figure it for you. WHY remove a feature that worked fine and made life easier. I wish I could find another program that did what I need for more like what Intuit was charging for Quickbooks. It's like ransom ware, "pay us our demand or we will cut you off"

Could not agree more. The degree of increase is ridiculous, on top of already having had to swallow the change to a subscription model for desktop software that already increased my price multi-fold. I am self-employed with no employees, and I guess Quickbooks no longer wants to serve that size customer.
If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore a free program. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.
QuickBooks, I don't think you do realize the impact your price increase has on people. I bought QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021 for $299.00 and own it. Now I am being quoted $645.44 for just one year's use of QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024. Small Businesses cannot afford that kind of price bump. I used QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021 for 3 years making my cost roughly $100/year. Your new pricing is 6.5 times that much making it go from roughly $100/year to $645.44 a year. Small Businesses will go out of business if we make that kind of price hikes to our customers. It is unbelievable what QuickBooks is doing.
Hello there, WDeVore.
We understand that adjusting prices can be challenging for small business owners. A price increase is necessary to provide you with the products, services, and support that will help you complete your accounting tasks more efficiently.

You can use your QB Desktop 2021 for good. Do you have any add-ons to run after May 2024? e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment
How so, if they've disabled the ability to download and import transactions? This is fundamental ransomware. What ownership?
You can use an importer tool as a workaround.

It;s a $199 one time license and you can get $100 cashback to purchase it through a partner.
Intuit is tone deaf to its customers' wants and needs. This greedy money-grab is the last straw. I am contacting SAGE and Freshbooks today and will migrate my customers to a platform that isn't resoundingly hated by all and from a company that doesn't rape its consumer base.
You can use the trial version of QB Desktop to access your historical data for good if required. Then start your data from scratch in Sage or FreshBook to lower your conversion costs.
Intuit is such a slimy and greedy company. Less than 10 years ago, you used to be able to buy QuickBooks Desktop for ~$300 and use it for 3 years. Now it's basically a subscription costing $600+ per year. The last 3 or 4 years it's gone up almost $200 per year. This is to motivate you to move to QuickBooks online-- which costs $600-$1200 per year per company. With QuickBooks Desktop you could track multiple companies with a single purchase-- useful if you had an LLC for holding property and another for running the business.
They also lobby the government to keep tax laws complicated so people can't file their taxes themselves and need software to do it for them. Just really sick and greedy stuff.
Do you need to run any add-ons? Payroll, Merchant Service
SO. I think it's absolutely ridiculous. I will go back to pencil and paper before I pay that amount every year. There is no way.
Unfortunately your company has abandoned the small business owner. We are the ones that built your company to what it is and you have left us high and dry. I'm sure I'm not alone in how I feel. I've been a loyal customer since 2000. This is how you treat your loyal customers. Not a good business practice. Just sayin.
Which QB Desktop year version? 2023 or 2024?
