Buy now & saveWhen adding a Subtotal to an invoice - the item Label does not appear on the Printed invoice. I can't think of why the label wouldn't appear? It's not clear on the printed invoice what this line is without the label. We don't include a description field on our invoice, but would think the item label for subtotal would appear like it does for all other items - including the discount.
Any way we can get this subtotal item label to appear?
I can help you with adding the subtotal when printing your invoice, @Lemmerot.
First, try to check the Additional Customization of the invoice’s template, make sure that the Print checkbox for Subtotal. Let me show you how:
Once done, try to print your invoice. If the issue persists, try running the Verify and rebuild tools. The Verify Data will identify any data issues within your company file. Then, the Rebuild tool will self-resolve it. Check the steps below:

Subtotal is not appearing when I go to the Footer tab of my invoice. See attached image. Any idea why that doesn't appear for me?
But honestly - I don't think even if it was appearing, this would solve the issue. The Subtotal I'm working with is not in the footer, it is listed as an item on the invoice, if you look at the screencap in my first post. And the subtotal is working fine - that line appears on the invoice - the only issue is - the name of the item "Subtotal" does not appear. So, it's confusing what this line is, since it's not showing the Subtotal name.
Hi there, @Lemmerot.
I appreciate you for getting back to us here in the Community. Allow me to chime in and provide some clarification about the invoices in QuickBooks.
When you add a Subtotal line, it adds up all items that come before it. The system is designed to only show the total amount and will not include the item name in the print preview.
As a workaround, I suggest using the Description field. It will help avoid confusion to your customer receiving the invoice.
Please follow these steps:

Thanks. Unfortunately - we don't want the description field on the invoice for other reasons.
Is there some reason why the subtotal item name doesn't appear when printing? I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't appear. The names of all other items - including discounts - do appear. Is it just a bug, or is there some reason?
Hello there, Lemmerot. Yes, you've got it right.
The Subtotal item label won't appear when printing the form. It only gives space in the Part number column, and the Amount column will generate the subtotal amount. This helps you determine the subtotal amount of particular items.
QuickBooks eliminates the subtotal name when printing the form to make it more formal. Still, you may consider following the workaround shared by my colleague AlcaeusF above. You can utilize the Description field to help your customer understand what's the amount is showing for.
I see how it works differently where the subtotal name is showing on invoices and not generating when printing it. You may want to visit our QuickBooks Blog website to see the most up-to-date information about the services and features.
