Quickbooks Desktop SLOW from 25 years of data

Hi there!

My QBD file has 25 years of data on it and each year our company gets bigger and does more work. It is at the point where running reports takes forever! What can we do to speed things up?

For context, our file exists on a desktop computer, not a server, that gets used by one of our employees. We have 7 people in the file daily, 128 employees on the payroll, and do 20 million dollars in work each year. Can someone please point me in a direction to help us save some time!

Thanks!!

The company file size is likely large as it contains 25 years of business data. To improve QuickBooks Desktop’s performance, we can use the Condense Data utility to streamline your company data file. Before we proceed, please keep in mind the following:

  • The process is irreversible.
  • It reduces the company file size.
  • Certain transactions will not be removed.
  • It may impact various reports.

Be sure to create a backup before condensing the data. Once done, you can proceed with the process. For the step-by-step instructions, check out this article: Use the Condense Data utility.
