Buy nowI am trying to figure out what versions of Quickbooks Desktop (Pro, Premier and/or Enterprise) will allow me to enter one or more bin locations for inventory items and also let me print pick tickets with those locations when I want to fulfill an order? I also would like to know where to find the complete list of reports each QBDT version (Pro, Premier and Enterprise) provides and how customizable they are? Thanks, Jeff.
The bin location feature is only available in Enterprise Platinum and Diamond. Otherwise, you can use a 3rd party inventory management app with Pro/Premier.
Hello, Jak.
Thank you for reaching out regarding the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) version that best suits your business needs.
Since this question has already been addressed by one of our experts, I would like to direct you to that relevant discussion. Please review the provided solution and follow the recommended steps: Re: Help with inventory features.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions about the tools you need for inventory management and reporting. We're here to help whenever you need us.
Hi Chrea and Ariell,
I appreciate your detailed responses, which I have reviewed, mostly understand and have some follow up questions.
For background, we are a small grower nursery that basically never changes. Most of the business is customer retail handled at a cash register, the rest is wholesale with a 10 year old Windows XP computer and accounting program that can not run on Windows 10/11 so needs replacing. We use the inventory module only for quantity tracking with no interest about cost accounting, so lacking a bin location field, use the xx.xx item cost to hold up to two 2 digit (00-99) bin locations and a custom report builder to generate pick tickets with one or possibly two bin locations for each item.
From what I think I have found following the links in your response, the least expensive Quickbooks only solution that includes bin locations and built in or custom pick ticket reports is the QBDT Enterprise Platinum which is $2,363 yearly for the first year, which includes Advanced Inventory and Advanced Reporting at no additional cost, but no mention if this is an introductory price or what it may cost in year two and beyond?
One alternative is to find a third party inventory application to add the multiple bin location and pick tickets features to either QBDT Pro ($840 per year) or Premium ($1,399 per year) whose additive yearly cost would hopefully be less than using the Enterprise Platinum. As it is my understanding that both QBDT Pro and Premium include basic inventory, I believe my last and hopefully least expensive alternative is to use either Pro or Premium with the same item cost xx.xx bin tracking as with our existing accounting system along with a custom report writer application to duplicate our custom pick tickets?
As the payback for an automated system represents a small percentage of an already small business, I am hopefully going to be able to afford to advance our office with QBDT Pro and either a custom inventory or report writer application, versus finding a reasonably healthy XP computer and retaining our old accounting application.
I have spoken with Sales, received confirmation regarding the features and limitations of the QBDT Pro, Premier and Enterprise versions, but got no useful answers regarding the ability to use custom applications to meet our requirements, so very much looking forward to your response regarding our options?
Thanks again for all your help,
Jeff
Do you need to run any add-ons? e.g QB Payroll
Hi Chrea,
There are no payroll or other add-ons that I am aware of, unless the included QBDT inventory or reports (especially pick ticket) are insufficient and must be supplemented.
The current single user accounting system is reset yearly and flows as follows through the season:
Set up wholesale customer accounts.
Set up inventory items using the xx.xx cost field to hold up to two 2 digit (00 – 99) bin codes (no dedicated location fields are otherwise available).
Enter initial customer orders prior to receiving inventory, inventory counts go negative (backordered).
Receive inventory, place items in previously designated bin locations.
Print pick tickets, physically pull items from inventory, print shipping list and deliver to customers.
Convert orders to invoices and send to customers.
Print monthly statements and send to customers.
For us, the requirements are pretty basic and can hopefully be met with a minimal version of QBDT like Pro or Premier with at most a low cost inventory or report writer add on.
Regards,
Jeff
You should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for advise. They can offer several options for your needs.
Hi Chrea,
Thank you for the recommendation to try contacting @Fiat Lux – ASIA for option advice. In the meantime, can you please be more specific as to which of the seven operational flow steps I outlined in my last reply that QBDT Pro or Premier are unable to perform on its own and require an optional add on? After exploring a suggestion from Rainflurry to examine a spreadsheet compiled by @hectorgarciacpa that breaks down the features and reports of the numerous versions of Quickbooks:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qH3PTdaYB4eIdfYDeVjzJ3iAalOt5dCV_5QUAqQhIZ8/edit?gid=0#gid=0
I noted the previously unknown to me QB (Desktop?) version Premier Plus 2024 that includes Inventory Sales Order Fulfillment Worksheet and Batch Picklist Print, so I was planning to download a trial of that version to see if it fulfilled our needs without any optional add ons?
Regards,
Jeff
You can use the information created by Hector G as a reference. The problem is that Intuit never offered a trial version of QB Desktop Premier. If you still need to try it, you can contact Fiat Lux and they can share a license to try for a week.
