Get 50% OFF QuickBooks for 3 months*
Buy nowHello, I help with IT at my place of work and I am trying to figure out what might be going on. We use Quickbooks Enterprise 14, and it has been working fine until recently. Now, when we write a check and go to print it or save the entry, the program pauses and the mouse cursor shows the "busy" icon for 5 seconds or so every time. When our accountant is doing bank rec at the end of the month, this extra time adds up and becomes annoying. I tried re-installing Quickbooks but it didn't make a difference. (I was going to reinstall Windows fresh, but it dawned on me that it doesn't seem to be affecting other programs.) What do you think could be the culprit?
Hi there, drm870. I appreciate your efforts in addressing the performance issues.
Utilizing the Verify and Rebuild tools in QuickBooks is an effective way to identify and repair data inconsistencies that may be causing the saving or printing delays.
Here's how to run the Verify Data tool:
If a message appears stating, Your data has failed the integrity check, proceed to rebuilding your file. If no problems are found, the process is complete.
To run the Rebuild Data tool:
If the issue persists after running these tools, I recommend using the QBDT Tool Hub for further troubleshooting.

Run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility. Any error messages?
No, but rebuilding worked anyway.
No problems were identified while running Verify Data, but I decided to run the Rebuild Data utility as well just in case and it ended up doing the trick. Thanks!
Hey there, I marked this as "Solved" as the rebuilding the data seemed to work initially, but it seems after a just a but of use the issue returns. Is there any reason it work initially work but then not as more data was entered? (In other words, does that hint at the problem being anything specific in particular?)
Thank you for providing an update, Drm. Allow me to assist you further.
You mentioned in your previous post that the verified rebuild temporarily resolved the issue. Could you confirm if you've also tried the additional troubleshooting steps provided, such as using the QuickBooks Tool Hub? This tool is designed to assist with more advanced troubleshooting.
If you've already used the Tool Hub and are still encountering the same issue, I recommend reaching out to our Live Support team. They have the necessary tools, such as screen sharing, to assist you promptly in finding the root cause of the issue.
Here's how:

Next troubleshoot, run Condense Data utility with any scenario to isolate the problem. Any error message?
In the past, it's been unable to finish the Condensing process; this time when I did so, it worked for whatever reason. Unfortunately, it still didn't fix the issue.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will look at the Tool Hub.
After further investigating, it appears that doing the Rebuild fixes the issue for the duration of the session, but upon closing and immediately re-opening the program, the freezing while saving an entry returns. Not sure if that info is helpful in diagnosing the situation in any way.
Next troubleshoot, install the trial version of QB Desktop 2015 or 2016 to isolate the problem. If you're experiencing the same issue, I suspect the rootcause is in your company file. You might consider purchasing a third-party service to repair your file.
