QuickBooks online sales orders

We are a wholesale distribution company with inventory and have been using QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop forever. Recently, we started to migrate over to QuickBooks Online and learned that there is not a sales order function. Has this been addressed and can we now add sales orders like we normally would in the desktop version

You should stay with QB Desktop. If you prefer switching to QBO, consider having an inventory management app with the sales order feature to sync with QBO.

Let me share more details on using the sales order on QBO.

I recognize the importance of having access to the sales order function in your account. However, this feature is only available for QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced subscribers. If you have one of these subscriptions, you can create a sales order by following these steps:

  1. Click the +New button.
  2. Under Customers, select Sales Order.
  3. Provide the necessary information.
  4. Hit Save.

You can check this article to learn more about managing your sales orders.

Additionally, I'm sharing this link to help you connect your ecommerce channel to QBO.

If you still have other questions on your sales order, we'll be here to assist you 24/7. Have a great day ahead.

When I try to use the Sales Order option, I get this message..."You’re using the older layout for QuickBooks invoices that is not compatible with the current version of sales orders. Please try again after switching to the newer version of invoices"  How do I switch to a newer version?

Thanks for getting involved with this thread, rustbeltoffroad. I appreciate your detailed information.

You can switch to the new version of invoicing while creating a new invoice.

Here's how:

  1. In the left navigation bar, go to Sales, then Invoices.
  2. Click Create new.
  3. Hit Update layout.
  4. Select Update layout.

I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with your new invoicing layout which may come in handy moving forward:

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

As per my original post, will this new sales order capability allow for an estimate to be turned into a sales order which could be turned into an invoice and then receive payment? I need to function just like it does with QuickBooks desktop version
