I attached the wrong invoice to a bill. When I try to remove it I get the "Unable to remove attachments" error. Everything I see online directs me to Quickbooks Online help or gives instructions that don't apply. Surely there has to be a way to remove this attachment.

I understand you're facing an issue removing an attachment in QuickBooks Desktop. I'll do my best to provide you with some troubleshooting steps that help resolve the problem, loilars.

Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to remove attachments. In QuickBooks Desktop, only users with appropriate access rights can delete attachments. If you're not the admin or don't have the required permissions, you can reach out to an administrator for assistance.

Additionally, I would like to inquire about the specific actions or procedures you followed in order to remove the invoice or attachment. In the meantime, make sure you remove the attachment from the associated transaction. Open the transaction, locate the attachment, and try removing it from there.

If the error persists, I recommend opening a sample file to investigate whether the issue lies with your company file, QuickBooks itself.

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Press CTRL on your keyboard and select QuickBooks. Don’t let go of CTRL until QuickBooks opens.
  3. Pick Open a Sample file.

If you able to remove the invoice/attachment, let's repair your original company file using the Rebuild Data tool. This is a built-in tool in QuickBooks Desktop that can help you fix some minor data issues within the system.

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Hover over Utilities and select Rebuild Data.

  3. On the QuickBooks Information window, click OK. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup and let the tool repair your file.
  4. When the tool finishes, select OK.
  5. Go back to the File menu.
  6. Then hover over Utilities and select Verify Data and let the tool check your file for data issues.

Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or require further assistance. I'll be here ready to provide support and guidance whenever you need. Stay safe and have a good one.
