Join nowHello . . . I recently discovered that I cleared a Journal Entry instead of a check when reconciling. They were both for the same amount. How do I correct the issues. This was done 4 months ago. It looks like everything balanced due to the fact that someone also created a "Bill" for the same amount as well. That was paid by a check.
Hello there, @francined.
Let me help share some insights about correcting previous reconciliation in QuickBooks Desktop.
You can undo the reconciliation for the account that you need to correct. Since this is a statement from 4 months ago, you'll need to go to your register for the particular bank account, then unchecked the transactions you need to redo.
Once done, go back to the normal reconciliation page and reconcile that statement with the latest statement. Make sure to enter the correct closing balance for the latest statement to equal it out.
This should help guide you in the right direction. You can also check this helpful article if you need more information about reconciling your accounts: Reconcile in QuickBooks Desktop.
I'll be hero to provide further help if you have additional questions about correcting your previous reconciliation in QuickBooks. Have a good one.
Thanks Lily, I will do that! Question though. Once I do that, won't I my balance be off in reconciliations after that due to the Journal Entry I won't be clearing when I re-reconcile?
Thanks for getting back @francined.
As long as you've reconciled the correct transaction, your balance shouldn't be off in the reconciliation. It's possible that the journal entry created is a duplicate transaction. You need to check this entry first since you may need to delete this if it's a duplicate.
Feel free to get back to me if you have additional questions. I'll be on the lookout for your reply if you need help.
When I go to uncheck the items in the register, what symbol should be next to the transaction? It seems to vary from an asterisk to a checkmark.
You're on the right track, @francined!
Transactions with checkmark have already been posted into your bank. I'm here to share additional insights about your transactions in your register.
First, when you remove the checkmark of your transactions, it'll be changed to an asterisk. This indicates that you've selected that transaction for today's reconciliation.
Thus, transactions with an asterisk indicate that they have already been reconciled. While the checkmark indicates that they have been posted or cleared in your bank.
Please let me know if you have any other questions. I'll be always around ready to help.
I did it . . . Thank You for all your help!!!
