Creating desired invoice

When creating an invoice in QBO, I type my products in the order I want them to appear on the printed invoice, but when I print it, the items are switched around and not in the order I desire.  How can I get my invoice to print products in the order I desire?

Creating desired invoice

Hi, @J R-A-T. It's great to have you in the QuickBooks Community.

The design template used and whether the line items include service dates determine the ordering of line items on your printed invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I can provide more details about this and help get your desired invoice.

When using an old or Other template from the Design tab and the line items include service dates, please know that the printed invoice will display the line items from the earliest to the latest date. If the line items don't include the service dates, the printed invoice will follow the ordering of line items upon invoice creation.

You can consider using the Modern template to have the printed invoice follow the ordering of line items with service dates during invoice creation. Here's how:

  1. Go to the +New button to create an invoice.
  2. Select Manage and choose the Design tab.
  3. Click on the Modern template radio button.
  4. Alternatively, drag the line items to reorder them.
  5. When done, select Print and download.

For future reference, I'm adding this article as a guide to recording customer payments in QBO: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

We'll be here in the Community if you have more concerns about customizing invoices in QBO. We'll do our best to assist. Take care.
