Error with QuickBooks Online data export to desktop version

Hi,

I am trying to create a backup from QBO to a desktop version.

Following the "Export your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop" topic, I get stuck on step 4  "Create a QuickBooks for Windows company file": after clicking "Convert Now" - I am getting an error message "Please switch to QuickBooks desktop edition and respond to a message or dialog box it may have open. Then come back here and click OK".

There are no messages or dialog boxes in QB desktop version ( it's on No Company open window).

Clicking OK does not do anything  and it goes back to the Step 4 screen.

I have tried using several Premier and Enterprise Desktop versions with  no progress.

It also does not matter if I have Desktop version open before running export.

The error screenshot is attached.

Thank you,

Error with QuickBooks Online data export to desktop version

We can perform some troubleshooting steps to convert your Online data into QuickBooks Desktop, KathleenM.

It's possible there's an interruption when converting the file into QuickBooks. Let's make sure to configure Internet Explorer's security and add *.intuit.com to the trusted sites.

Here's how:

  1. From the Command Bar, select Tools and click Internet Options.
  2. Click Trusted Sites.
  3. Within the Trusted sites window, un-check Require server verification ( https: ) for all sites in this zone.
  4. In the Add this website to the zone field, type: *.intuit.com. It is recommended that you remove all other websites in reference to intuit.com from the list of websites, as *.intuit.com will cover all Intuit sites.
  5. Close the Trusted sites window.
  6. Uncheck Enable Protected Mode.
  7. Close Internet Explorer.

Once done, run QuickBooks Desktop and Internet Explorer in Administrator Mode. Just locate the program from a desktop shortcut, or in the Start menu. Then, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.

Go back to Step 4: Finish exporting your data section in this article to finish the process: Export your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

If the same thing happens, I'd suggest contacting our Technical Support Team. They'll help you export your Online data into the software.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click Help on the top menu.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Enter your concern in the Search field.
  4. Tick the Search icon
  5. Tap the Contact Us link.
  6. Choose Get a callback to connect with us.
