I imported a list of transactions as deposits and they should've been expenses

Hello there, @CristinaLP.

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I can see you need help with banking transactions showing as deposits instead of expenses. I'm here to help share insights in handling imported expenses in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The expenses that show as a deposit on your For Review page are either formatted or mapped incorrectly. To fix this, you'll want to exclude the imported transactions, and before importing and mapping them again in QBO, please review if the imported file is in the correct format.

Here's how:

  1. On the left panel, click Banking.
  2. Go to the Banking tab.
  3. Choose an account.
  4. Click the For Review tab.
  5. Put a checkmark beside the transactions to exclude.
  6. Select Exclude.

In case you need some visual reference, I'm adding a screenshot of this:

You can refer to this helpful article: How to exclude expenses from downloaded bank transactions. After that, manually re-upload the transactions into QBO.

For example, ensure that the file format in the Amount column is correct. For the 3-column CSV file, ensure that the expense amount is negative (-). Please see the sample below:

For the 4-column format, you can enter the expenses amounts on the Credit column to map the debit and credit accurately when importing. For example, in the Money Spent field, pick the Credit header.

See this guide to ensure the format of the CSV file you got from your bank to upload transactions to QuickBooks is accurate: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

If you're all set, want to manage transactions and find any mismatch in your account balances, see this for the fixes:
