QB Enterprise 2020 to QB online Migration After

My client setup up QB Online approximately a year ago and did not migrate their information from QB desktop enterprise 2.0.   How can we do a late migration without erasing the transactions already in QB online?

I know a way to migrate the data to QuickBooks Online, Pro-Accountant. I'll gladly show you the way.

Migrating a desktop file is only possible within 60 days after signing up to QuickBooks Online. Since your client signed up a year ago, we can export the lists to Excel instead. Then, import them to the online version. This won't erase the transactions that are already entered in the program.

Here's how to export the lists from QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise:

  1. Go to the File menu and then select Utilities.
  2. Choose Export, then click Lists to IIF Files.
  3. Select the list you want to export and click OK.

  4. Browse the location where you want to save your file and then click Save.

To know more, I'd suggest browsing this article: Export Lists from the Old Company File.

After exporting the file, we can now import them to QuickBooks Online version. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear menu and then select Import data.

  2. On the Bring your existing data into QuickBooks window, select the list you'd like to import.

  3. Locate the file you exported.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
  5. Repeat the steps to import the other lists.

For more details, please see Step 2 on this article: Move your Lists to QuickBooks Online.

Aside from importing lists, your client can also manually enter the information or use a third-party importer tool.

Also, there are things to keep in mind before moving the lists to the online version. I'd recommend sharing this article with your client to learn more about them: What to Expect When you Switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, I've added these articles that'll help your client learn more about the things they can perform in QuickBooks Online.

I'm always here if you have other questions about moving data to QuickBooks Online, Pro-Accountant. It's my pleasure to help you out again.
