QuickBooks Desktop User Restrictions

Hi! Is there a specific way for me to restrict a user from adding and editing the Unit of Measurements in the Inventory, without talking away his access to inventory and purchasing?

QuickBooks Desktop User Restrictions

Thanks for checking in with us, JAC16.

The option to restrict a user from adding and editing the unit of measurements in the inventory is unavailable. We only have the Selective Access option where you can restrict the user as shown below:

To set up a restriction to the existing user, just follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Company menu and select Set Up Users and Password and
  2. Choose Set up Users.
  3. Tap the user name and click Edit user
  4. Then Next.
  5. On the Access for user: (username) window, choose which area of QuickBooks the user has access to, then Next. If you choose Selected areas of QuickBooks, you can customize the restrictions for different areas of the company file for the newly created user by selecting No AccessFull Access, or Selective Access.
  6. Press Finish.

To view all roles and their permissions, we can run a Permission Access by Roles report. Here’s how.

  1. Go to the Company menu, then select Users
  2. Tap Set Up Users and Roles.
  3. Enter the admin password, then hit OK.
  4. Click the Role List tab, then hit View Permissions.
  5. Select the roles you want to review, then press Display.
