So just noticed that in my bank register screen at the top, to the right of the drop down for accounts my bank balance is not correct and is not updating, ever.  The balance per bank on the banking screen and everywhere else is correct, just not on the register.  Not a biggie, but just really annoying.  Anyone know anything about this?

The total balance that you see in the bank register comes from the transactions added or matched from the Banking page.


Here are the factors affecting the balances:


  • Outstanding transactions.
  • New transactions for a connected account.
  • Duplicate, edited, or deleted transactions.
  • Card (liability) account.

Thanks for the response, I get that the bank balance in my register will not always be what is reflected in my bank balance per bank.  That is not my question: on the bank register page in QB's online in the top left there is a drop down of all available bank accounts.  Directly to the right of that is "Bank Balance" with amount.  That amount is what I am questioning, where is that number coming from, it hasn't changed in months and doesn't match my bank balance on the banking page or reconciled amount in previous reconciliation. 

It's really not a biggie, has no impact on my accounts at all, as I mentioned it's just more annoying than anything.

You can log in to your bank's website to review your bank balance, th2020.


The running balance depends on the last update of your bank. If it's not updating, you can manually update your bank account to get the latest transaction. 


Here's how: 

  1. Click Banking.
  2. Select Update. Make sure you have selected the appropriate account. QuickBooks Online tries to connect to your bank to manually update your account.

You can also run reports in QuickBooks Online to check what transactions that comprise the balance. Please read this article for more information: Run Reports In QuickBooks Online.

Update to issue.  I ended up having to disconnect the bank account and then reconnect it and now the bank balance issue has been resolved.
