when I try to do it on the remote pc it pulls the back up from the remote pc which is an old version

You'll have to install the QuickBooks Database Manager on your remote computer to access and restore your file from the server. This allows you to configure the QuickBooks Server for multi-user access.
Then, map server or host computer as a network drive in your remote computer. I'll show you how.
