Restoring from backup

No it doesn't sound like you did anything wrong.  If it was a true/good Backup, all the info should be there.  But you don't need to start with a BU file, do you still have your QB2018 file?

Since your first try did not work, just clean out what is in the QB Data Folder where your Company file is now.

NOTE: If the Backup Folder is in that same Folder the DO NOT DELETE THE BACKUPS!!!

Once the Data Folder is clear of the other Company info, copy in your Company-Name.QBW file.  Be sure to COPY the file and keep the original in a safe place.  Also, if you have any custom logos on your Invoices, copy the Company-Name - Images Folder too.

NOTE:  If you want the QB Data Folder to be in a different location than it is now, this would be the time to move the whole folder...

Launch QBs and since the same Company File is in the same Folder as your first attempt, it may recognize it and the ask if it's okay to Update the file.  Say Yes.  If it doesn't recognize the file it will take you to the No Company Open window.  Click on Open or restore an existing company and navigate to where our .QBW file is located.  When you go to open the file it will ask you to Update, which is fine.  It is updating from the 2018 to 2022 file.

At this point you should be good to go.  This is a copy of the original file, now in QB2022 format, and everything should be there.  If not, then are you sure there were no issues with the file when you last ran QB2018?  You may need to go back to QB2018 to confirm.  And again, if you do, do not use the original file, copy it into a different folder to use.
