Search by memo/description

Hi, I want to see a list of specific memo/description journal entries for a given time period.

For example all "customer returns" for 2020.

But no matter what combination of fields I use in the search feature I get "no items found."

How do I do it?

Thanks!

Search by memo/description

Hello there, welcome back to the Community.

I'm here to ensure you're able to see the complete list of specific memos/description of your journal entries for a specified period (i.e. 2020) in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Based on your description of the issue above, it seems like you're searching for the details of your journal entries through the Advanced Search feature. When you've selected the appropriate information on the search fields and added the Memo/Desc. column from the page's Settings, you should be able to include the journal entries' memo/description details. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to the Search icon beside the Help menu.
  2. Select the Advanced Search hyperlink below.
  3. On the Search page, choose Journal Entries. Then, choose all other necessary details.
  4. Choose the Add Filter button to filter the date.
  5. Click Search.
  6. Select Settings (small Gear icon above the table), then select Memo/Desc.

I've attached a screenshot below that shows the last four steps.

However, in case you're still unable to filter the memo/description of your journal entries, you can perform some troubleshooting steps by pulling up your account using a private browser (incognito). This is to identify if the issue is related to your browser. If it works, go back to your default browser and clear its cache and cookies to refresh the system.

Additionally, QBO makes finding transactions quick and easy with the search function. To learn more about this, I'd recommend checking out this article: Search for transactions. It also includes steps in searching transactions by customer/vendor name and type.

Please know that you're always welcome to comment below if you have other concerns about searching and managing financial transactions in QuickBooks. I'm just around to help. Take care.

Wow, Rea!

It was the gear icon, and checking the memo/desc box--and bingo it was all there.

Such a small thing and such a big result.
