Seriously? You can't manage bills with the Simple Start plan?

I just downgraded from the Quickbooks Online Essentials to the Simple start plan as I only needed the 1-user access feature, not the 3-user access feature, nor the "track billable hours" features of the Essentials Plan. And according to the Upgrade page at Quickbooks Online those are the only two features you lose when downgrading from Essentials to Simple start.

 

Apparently that is NOT the case as you lose a ton of features, including something as basic as managing your bills. After some digging I found that the QB Online website lists the plan differences MUCH differently than at my QB Online plan page showing that managing your bills is not part of the Simple Start plan.

 

This purposeful omission of not being able to something as freaking basic as managing your bills with their $30/mo plan is deceptive and ridiculous. You can manage your bills for free with just about any accounting software. This forces small business owners with 1 user to HAVE to upgrade.

 

I would ditch QB online in a heartbeat if I could with these deceptive plan features and continual rising subscription fees but alas my accountant online works with QB Online.

 

Totally lame QB!!

QuickBooks Online is where you handle your finances and business. It connects the products and services you use to show data and insights. This allows you to make decisions that matter. New products, reports, tools, features, and functionality drive how we support the efforts of businesses. 

 

Each version of QuickBooks has different features you can use depending on what your business needs. A simple start is an easiest and quickest way for single users to manage all of their income and expenses in one simple tool. However, the feature to manage bills isn't currently possible on this plan because it's a good idea to handle this entry with various users so your data remains accurate.

 

I suggest going to the Gear icon in QuickBooks Online. From there, I encourage you to choose Feedback and submit a request about having the option to manage bills in QBO. Any recommendations are sent to our engineers for consideration in future updates.

Sign up a separate Melio account for free to manage and pay your bills. You still need to register the transactions manually in Simple Start.

Thanks ChristieAnne. I appreciate your detailed and prompt response. I did indeed submit this feedback through the gear link as well. I hope product development will seriously reconsider this as it is the only reason why I have to go with your Essentials plan which is totally overkill for my needs....which is why I downgraded from Essentials initially (and to save money due to the consistent price increases)...then upgraded again today to get that single Bill management feature. Really does feel like it was a conscience effort by the developers of the plans to force QB users to have to upgrade. Fyi I have been a small business QB user since ~2005 and have not felt the need to leave negative feedback until now.

If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore this one. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.

Then to pay your bills for free by ACH, you can signup a Melio account for free as I mentioned earlier.
