I am trying to create subclasses. I can create a class however when I try to create a subclass to the class it says enter a valid entity. What am I missing?
Allow me to guide you in setting up sub-classes, @debra28.
Organizing your financial data is crucial for any business, and creating classes can help you achieve this goal. Assigning classes to your transactions enables you to classify them based on important criteria such as customer, job, or product. By doing so, you can better track and analyze your income, expenses, and inventory items. This, in turn, allows you to generate customized reports that provide you with valuable insights into your business's financial performance.
When creating sub-classes, ensure to use an existing parent class. Entering a non-existing parent class will prompt an error message saying, "Please make a valid entry". To properly create a sub-class, here's how:
Create a parent Class

You can categorize transactions by departments or product lines to get a clear picture of each segment's financial health when generating reports. Please refer to this article: Get started with class tracking in QuickBooks Online (intuit.com).

In the meantime, you can change your Parent class name to a lower number in order for the sub-class to show in the dropdown list; you need to select it and then change it back afterward.

Allow me to share some insights about adding sub-classes to a Parent class in your QuickBooks Online.
My colleague provided a workaround for you to add a sub-class to your QBO. To simplify the workaround provided, you need to make your Parent class shorter to make it appear on the dropdown list when adding a sub-class.
Here's how:
1. Go to the Gear icon and click All Lists.
2. Choose Classes and click on New.
3. Create a shorter name for your Parent class.
4. After saving the shorter Parent class, you can now add your sub-class.
5. Once done, you click Save.
6. From there, edit your newly created Parent class. Click the dropdown arrow, then click Edit.
8. Edit your Parent class name into your desired one then click Save.

I am having a similar issue I think.
I have created classes and subclasses but the subclasses do not appear in the dropdown list when I am trying to assign transactions to a subclass. If I type in the subclass name I get an error message.
How to I assign a transaction to a subclass?

On the other hand, let's perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this. Sometimes, browser caches can become filled with frequently accessed page resources, leading to errors or unexpected responses. To resolve the issue, try accessing your account using a different browser or enabling private browsing mode. You can use the shortcut keys below:
If it works, return to your regular browser and clear your browser's history to start afresh. We also suggest using a different supported browser because the QuickBooks version you're utilizing now may have a temporary malfunction.
