Sorting a register

I would like to be able to sort a register so that it appears with the most recent transaction at the top, rather than the bottom.

Is there a way to do this?

Yes, there is, @byomtov.

We can pull up the QuickReport and filter to show the most recent transactions in your register.

You may follow these steps:

  1. At the top menu, select the Lists tab.
  2. Choose Chart of Accounts.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow beside the Gear icon in the lower-left section.
  4. Select QuickReport.
  5. Click the Option menu, then filter the date period.
  6. Modify the ColumnsReport basis, etc. if necessary and then click on OK.
  7. Select the date column and ensure the arrow is in a downward position.

You may also want to consider memorizing the QuickReport. This helps you save the current customized settings for easy access in the future.

We're always here to help if you need further assistance in sorting your transactions.

Sorting a register

This is not what I want to do.

I want to sort a specific register, in this case the one for my bank account, so that the most recent transaction is at the top, rather than the bottom, when the register is displayed on the screen.

In other words, I want to sort it by date, from most recent to earliest, rather than the other way around.

I appreciate you for adding more details about your concern, byomtov.

To show the most recent transactions at the top of the page in your register is unavailable at this time. For now, you can run a QuickReport and filter the data to the most recent one.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Lists at the top menu bar and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. From there, pick the bank account you’re working on.
  3. Choose the entry and click the Reports option to select QuickReport from the menu at the bottom of the page.
  4. In the From and To fields enter the desired date.

The following article contains instructions on how to filter the data on the report as well as changing the fonts/colors, header, footer, etc: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

I also invite you to visit the Firm of the Future site to see the latest news, product enhancements, and features added in QuickBooks.

I see no QuickReports icon.

Remember, I am running the Desktop Mac version.

I can help you locate the QuickReport in the program, @byomtov.

The report mentioned by my colleague above is the option you were looking for, so you'll be able to sort the date to the most recent transaction.

Here's how:

  1. From your Chart of Account’s page, highlight the account.
  2. Select the dropdown arrow beside the small gear icon in the lower-left portion.
  3. Choose QuickReport.
  4. Click the Option menu at the left top, then filter the date period.
  5. Modify the Columns, Report basis and etc. if necessary and then press OK.
  6. Select the date column and make sure the arrow is in a downward position.

If you want the same customization, you can memorize this report in QuickBooks. Memorizing a report allows you to save with its current customization settings. Depending on the date filter, the data will be different or updated.

I’ve also added a reference that tackles different functionality in customizing reports in QuickBooks. It shows you how to filter report data, change fonts, colors, and even setting alignment.
