Buy nowSpreadsheet sync seems like a decent tool until put further to the test. I would like to pull in all expenses for a specific date range and for a specific general ledger account in order to edit them.
However, Spreadsheet sync forces me to pull ALL expenses for ALL general ledger accounts for the specific date range into Excel before editing them. This takes a long time to for the spreadsheet to load and seems unnecessary. There doesn't appear to be the ability to filter further by general ledger account (Category) before clicking the "get template" button. The only alternative is to run it for a shorter date range and multiple times over.
I appreciate you for taking the time to share your feedback about the functionality of Spreadsheet Sync, Matt.
I understand that pulling unnecessary data multiple times can be time-consuming and overwhelming. Let me address your concern and provide a solution to help streamline your workflow.
Yes, you can pull expenses for a specific general ledger account and date range by applying filters directly in the report. Here's how:
1. From the General Ledger Report.
2. Select the desired Report Period and click the Customize button in the upper-right corner.
3. Navigate to the Filter dropdown and select the specific account name (can be multiple) from the Distribution Account and Account dropdown.
4. Click Run Report.
However, Spreadsheet Sync does not allow filtering the General Ledger (GL) account before pulling data into Excel. The current workaround is to either run the report for a shorter date range or filter by GL account after the data has been pulled into Excel.
I suggest contacting our Live Support team for further assistance with this or to explore other options within the spreadsheet tool.
Please leave us a response if you have other questions or concerns.

Let me test and get back to you.
Hi Michaela,
Following your steps simply opens up the spreadsheet sync tool in Microsoft Excel. It doesn't export the specific report into spreadsheet sync. I'm trying to recode expenses using the spreadsheet sync tool and it appears that this tool forces me to have to bring in expenses for all accounts for the specific date range. This results in long loading times while the spreadsheet sync tool loads hundreds if not thousands of expenses.
In your first reply you make it sound like I can run a report and then export that report directly into the spreadsheet sync tool and then recode the transactions? I need a more detailed tutorial as I run a general ledger report filtered by account then I select "run report and sync data in excel" however, this opens up excel and brings up spreadsheet sync, but forces me to log in to intiut in the spread sheet sync window in excel. Then spreadsheet sync gives me the same set of functions/options as though I opened up a blank excel work book, clicked on spreadsheet sync on the home section, logged in.

Hello there, Matt. Thank you for your detailed feedback and taking the time to follow the steps shared by my colleague.
We understand the importance of working efficiently and focusing on specific data, such as expenses for a single general ledger account. While Spreadsheet Sync has limitations in pre-filtering data before importing, we’ll explore options and workarounds to help streamline your process effectively.
You are correct that clicking "Run report and sync data in Excel" launches the Spreadsheet Sync tool in Excel instead of exporting a specific report directly into it. Unfortunately, the General Ledger report is not supported for syncing with Spreadsheet Sync, which is why your spreadsheet appears blank.
For a list of reports that are supported, you can refer to the "Types of QuickBooks Online reports available in Spreadsheet Sync" section in this article: Create and edit reports in Spreadsheet Sync in QuickBooks Online Advanced or Accountant.
Additionally, you're also right that the tool imports all expenses within the specified date range for all accounts, which can result in long loading times when handling large volumes of data. Currently, filtering by account before syncing is not supported in Spreadsheet Sync. Instead, once the data is synced to Excel, you can apply filters within the spreadsheet itself to narrow the transactions by account or date range.
Once the data is synced into the Spreadsheet Sync tool, you can apply filters directly in the spreadsheet to narrow the transactions by account. Filtering options are available within Excel after syncing the data.
We understand this process might not be ideal for recoding expenses for a specific account, but we encourage you to share your suggestions with our Product Team for consideration in future updates, including the ability to sync data for a single account.
