QuickBooks Desktop allows you to customize and even personalize the font and style of the report that you generate. For now, the ability to customize reports on the drop-down menu and remove contributed reports isn't an option. You'll want to use templates so you can customize them and build a custom report that will suit your needs. To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Run a report.
2. On the Report window, select Customize Report.
3. On the Modify Report window, go to the tab/s you need to update, then select OK when you're done.

Thank you for your answer. My question is: Can you customize the drop down menu not how to customize a report. 

Example: if you go under the Reports / Sales/ Sales by item details say. Can one remove this as an option from the choices. It was not about the customizing a report it is customizing the drop down menu at the top.

For now, customizing the drop-down list from the Reports menu is unavailable. If you only want to see the specific reports with the same settings of the customization, you can memorize them. 

Here's how:

1. Go to Reports at the top.
2. Open a report that you want to add.
3. Customize the report and click the Memorize button.

After memorizing the report, you can access it by going to Reports > Memorized Reports. Here's a sample screenshot for a visual reference:
